Job summary

Merck & Co., Inc. seeks a Packaging Lead at its De Soto site to oversee day-to-day packaging operations and drive continuous improvement. The role emphasizes safety, quality, and training of operators in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

You will coordinate with Quality, EHS, and Engineering to meet production schedules and implement Lean tools for efficiency. The position requires 3+ years in manufacturing with strong leadership.

Qualifications

  • HS Diploma or equivalent with 3+ years of Manufacturing or related experience.
  • Experience leading packaging operations and adherence to GMP standards.
  • Strong leadership, coaching and training capabilities to develop operators.
  • Knowledge of lean, six sigma and project management methodologies.

Responsibilities

  • Lead day-to-day packaging operations and ensure schedule adherence.
  • Develop and coach team, provide feedback and training as part of PM cycle.
  • Ensure safety, quality, and regulatory compliance in all tasks.
  • Maintain GMP documentation, SOPs, and change controls as needed.

We work in the local plant connected to our global manufacturing network to ensure the highest quality of raw materials, intermediates and finished products.

This position as a Packaging Lead will be created to act as the day-to-day lead of packaging operations, with the following responsibilities:

Primary Responsibilities
Employee Development & Leadership
  • Models Company leadership principles and inclusive behaviours.
  • Provides coaching and supports skills development and process capabilities within their team.
  • Supports effective feedback and coaching within the team during the Performance Management cycle.
  • Is responsible for ensuring all operators receive appropriate training for all assigned tasks.
  • Supports the effective performance management of individuals in their teams.
Safety Compliance
  • Demonstrates a strong compliance mind-set (EHS and Quality) and continuously sets a high standard for themselves and others.
  • Follows safe operating instructions for all tasks and equipment.
  • Ensures that the right tools and equipment specified for the task are available and utilized.
  • Ensures that the correct personal protective equipment required is available and utilized.
  • To follow up any reported defects or workplace hazards immediately.
  • To report all accidents, incidents and near misses within 24 hours and to participate in investigation and identification of effective corrective and preventative actions.
Quality Compliance
  • Supports the on-time completion of Quality compliance tasks in relation to Deviation, CAPA and Change Control management.
  • Is responsible for all aspects of Quality Assurance including cGMP, RFT and good documentation practices and provides coaching to others.
  • Supports the update, review and approval of GMP documentation including, but not limited to:
    • SOP’s
    • MD’s
Productivity
  • Is responsible for the Daily, Weekly and Monthly schedule adherence of production activities within their department.
  • Build and maintain strong collaborations with different stakeholders throughout the Site Operations such as Operational Excellence, Engineering, Quality and R&D.
  • Supports the Packaging and Warehouse Team in creating a culture of continuous improvement and leads by example.
  • Supports initiatives for stabilizing and improving production processes.
  • Supports the effective application of Lean Six Sigma, Project Management and Change Management Tools.
  • Is responsible for the facilitation of an effective Tier 1 Meeting, including, but not limited to:
    • A visual status of training within the department.
    • A visual status of the completion of compliance tasks.
    • A visual status of schedule adherence.
    • Communication of key issues impacting the team.
Financial
  • Recognizes and investigates opportunities for financial savings.
Educational Requirements
  • HS Diploma or equivalent Three (3)+ years Manufacturing or related experience.
