Job summary

Siemens Gamesa seeks a Lead Technician to oversee the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of wind turbines. You will perform routine maintenance, troubleshoot issues, and repair electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic systems, with tower climbs for inspections as needed.

This role emphasizes safety, record-keeping, and teamwork, with opportunities to contribute to the wind farm’s reliability and performance. A high school diploma, with preferred related field credentials, is required.

Qualifications

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent; an associate's degree is a plus.
  • Background: Wind turbine maintenance or power generation experience preferred but not required.
  • Safety: Knowledge of safety protocols and procedures.
  • Technical: Strong understanding of electrical, mechanical and hydraulic systems; troubleshooting abilities.
  • Communication: Ability to communicate effectively with team members and supervisors.
  • Physical: Ability to climb wind turbine towers and perform physical tasks in various weather conditions.
  • Other: Must meet body weight restrictions; valid driver's license and DMV checks required.

A Snapshot of Your Day

A local Lead Technician is responsible for the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of wind turbines, ensuring the wind farm produces reliable power. They perform a range of duties including routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic systems, as well as climbing towers for inspections and repairs. They also chip in to the overall safety and efficiency of the wind farm by following safety protocols, maintaining records, and assisting with other tasks as needed.

How You’ll Make An Impact
  • Routine Maintenance: Performing scheduled maintenance checks, inspections, and lubrication on wind turbine components.
  • Troubleshooting and Repair: Diagnosing and repairing mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues with wind turbines.
  • Safety: Ensuring all work activities are performed safely, adhering to safety protocols and procedures, and providing safety training.
  • Record Keeping: Maintaining accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and performance data.
  • Tower Climbing: Climbing the towers in order to inspect, diagnose and repair components. This does require knowledge of specialized climbing skills and related equipment.
  • Component Replacement: Replacing or repairing worn-out or damaged wind turbine components.
What You Bring
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent (GED) is required. An associate's degree in a related field is a plus. Other combinations of education and experience will be considered (I.e.: military, skilled trades).
  • Background: A background in wind turbine maintenance or power generation is preferred but not required.
  • Safety Knowledge: An understanding of safety protocols and procedures.
  • Technical Skills: Strong understanding of electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic systems. Troubleshooting. Ability to diagnose and repair complex technical issues.
  • Communication Skills: Ability to communicate effectively with other team members and supervisors.
  • Physical Fitness: Ability to climb wind turbine towers and perform physical tasks in various weather conditions.
  • Other Requirements: Must meet body weight restrictions of 265 pounds or less as required by OSHA safety regulations. Valid driver's license is required for the position and the selected candidates will be subject to a DMV check.
