Job summary

Amerit Fleet Solutions in Chicago, IL is seeking an experienced Lead Diesel Technician to lead a small team in a fast-paced shop, while staying hands-on with repairs and coaching technicians.

You will perform preventive maintenance, diagnose complex mechanical and electrical issues, manage work orders, and ensure safety compliance; weekly pay, benefits within 30 days, 401(k) matching, PTO, and nationwide career growth.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of hands-on vehicle maintenance experience or completion of an accredited automotive or diesel technology program.
• Previous leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
• ASE Certifications preferred.
• Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills, including scan tool experience and schematic interpretation.
• Valid driver's license and ability to operate manual transmission vehicles.
• Ability to provide and maintain required personal tools and toolbox.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office, email, and fleet management systems.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead daily shop operations and coordinate shift activities with the Fleet Manager.
• Supervise and support two or more technicians while remaining actively involved in repairs.
• Perform preventive maintenance and complex mechanical and electrical repairs on fleet vehicles.
• Update, manage, and close work orders while communicating with drivers and operations.
• Maintain, order, and manage parts inventory.
• Complete vehicle inspections and required safety documentation.
• Prepare and maintain accurate service records using fleet management systems.
• Ensure compliance with company policies and all applicable safety regulations.
• Perform other duties as assigned to support fleet operations.

What You'll Do

What We're Looking For

Working Conditions

This role involves working in a mobile, outside and/or shop environment with exposure to dust, diesel fumes, noise, and mechanical materials such as oils and greases. Technicians must be able to perform essential job functions that include frequent movement such as standing, walking, climbing, bending, and sitting for extended periods, as well as lifting heavy objects and accessing tight or confined spaces. This position requires regular use of hands to grasp, reach, handle, and operate tools and equipment. Technicians may be required to work at heights using ladders or elevated platforms and must be able to safely perform duties in various weather conditions. Due to the active work environment and movement of large vehicles, the ability to see and hear sufficiently to safely navigate the workspace is required.
