We serve growing businesses across Texas with reliable, professional service rooted in integrity and strong communication.

We are seeking our first Lead Technician to join us as a 1099 contractor. This is a foundational role with the opportunity to become a full-time employee as the business grows.

Position Overview

The Lead Technician will handle the installation, configuration, and troubleshooting of structured cabling, smart devices, A/V setups, and network systems. You’ll lead on-site work, ensuring quality and professionalism, and occasionally supervise junior techs or helpers.

Key Responsibilities

• Install and terminate Cat5e/Cat6 cabling and low-voltage systems
• Mount and configure network racks, patch panels, switches, and Wi-Fi access points
• Install in-wall and ceiling speakers, TVs, projectors, and A/V equipment
• Read and interpret site diagrams and project scopes
• Coordinate on-site execution of technical tasks
• Troubleshoot issues and ensure a clean, finished install
• Communicate effectively with clients and represent MerkenIT standards
• Maintain clear records of labor, materials, and project status

Requirements

• At least 2 years of experience in low-voltage, networking, or A/V installation
• Ability to run, terminate, and label data and audio cables
• Familiarity with smart office technologies and network hardware
• Skilled with hand tools, ladders, testers, and labelers
• Strong communication and attention to detail
• Reliable transportation and basic tool set
• Willingness to travel within the Texas Triangle (with a focus on San Antonio)
• Must be authorized to work in the U.S. and eligible for 1099 contracting
