GENERAL SUMMARYUnder the direction of the Center Director, works with children and families eligible for Head Start Services. Leads the team in development of a safe, nurturing, inclusive learning environment that supports each child’s overall growth and development in all domains. Leads the implementation of evidence-based curriculum to fidelity and developmentally appropriate practices, interactions, and methodologies to meet program requirements and child and family outcomes outlined in the Head Start Program Performance Standards. Serves as Center Director for alternate designee for California Community Care Licensing.ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIESCurriculum and PracticeResponsible for the safety and supervision of children at all timesResponsible for safeguarding confidentiality of personal information of children and families by upholding company mandates and policies.Leads the planning and implementation of developmentally and culturally appropriate child-focused curricula and activities in the classroom and outdoor spaces in coordination with the Center Director and Education Department staff.Responsible for working with special education personnel and other program staff and partners to meet individual educational needs of children, including areas of cognitive, fine and gross motor, social emotional, self-help, behavioral, and speech and language development.Participates and supports in the adaptation of the classroom environment and curriculum to meet the needs of children with disabilities or special needs and to ensure that each child is fully included into center operations.Leads the planning and implementation of DRDP developmental assessments of children three times per year and annual completion of developmental screening requirements, home visits, and parent conferences under the supervision of the Center Director.Attend monthly Parent meetings at the site and provide childcare with the teamPromotes family partnerships and parent involvement in program planning, implementation of services, and individualization of services for their children through parent activities and committee involvement and volunteering in the classroom. Assists with recruitment and enrollment process.Communicates with families about their children’s day and their progress, behaviors, and/or any injuries at schoolAbility to relate to staff, families and children from diverse cultural, social and economic backgroundsPlan and implement educational field trips, with input from parents.Responsible for utilizing classroom activity funds in response to emergent curriculum.Maintain a neat and organized classroom and provide an attractive learning environment.Safeguard confidentiality of personal information of children and families by upholding mandates and policies.Serve as Center Director alternate designee in the absence of Center Director.Provide substitute coverage as needed.Assist with Food Service and kitchen duty as needed.TrainingPlan and participate in staff and parent trainings on topics relevant to child development, environments and classroom management.Attend pertinent training, workshops and conferences both within and outside of Head Start at the direction of the Center Director.Remain current in ECE/Child Development best practices through participation in continuing education and regular review of child development journals and resources provided by Child Start department staff.Actively participate in site staff meetings and other appropriate meetings to support and advance services.Monitoring and Record KeepingCompile and keep current child and family documentation of home visits and other program services.Regularly observe classroom operations, system of developmental assessment, and any other pertinent material to ensure quality service delivery.Provide periodic reports to the Education Department.NetworkingFurther relationships within site, position, region, agency and community to ensure integrated and comprehensive services for families with children.Work with community and local school systems to manage the transition process for children and their families.EQUIPMENT USEDTelephone, copier, personal computer, and related software including Microsoft Office Suite and Microsoft Teams.JOB CONDITIONS / COMPLEXITYPosition is based primarily in the classroom, with occasional travel to families’ homes and community locations for home visits and conferences. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.Education and ExperienceAA or BA degree in ECE/Child Development, including at least 3 units of Admin/Supervision.ORRelated AA or BA degree plus 24 ECE units, including at least 3 units Admin/Supervision. Original (or certified copies) of all credentials or certificates and college transcripts indicating applicable coursework to meet requirements of position as a condition of employment.Two years teaching experience in a licensed childcare center or comparable group childcare program (previous experience teaching in a Head Start program highly desired), or 1 year as an Associate in a Child Start classroom.Other RequirementsCurrent 1st Aid and CPR Certification or ability to obtain in 60 days, and remain current throughout employmentMust be able to serve children with special needs. Some staff may be required to provide services in a full inclusion model/classroomAbility to pass criminal record clearanceClear TB test and statement of good health from a doctor are required as a condition of employmentAbility to provide proof of immunization against measles, pertussis, influenza, COVID-19Willingness to report any suspected child abuse as required by state law.Other Skills and AbilitiesBilingual English/Spanish language preferredIn-depth knowledge of child development principles.One year experience in classroom facilitation and managementFamiliarity of adult learning stylesAbility to develop positive working relationships with other staff, parents, volunteers and community partnersMust be committed to a high standard of safety and be willing and able to comply with employer safety policiesMust maintain regular and acceptable attendance in compliance with agency Attendance policy.
