Lead Teacher / Program Coordinator
Children and Youth Programs, School of Chinese Studies
The School of Chinese Studies at China Institute is seeking a passionate and experienced Lead Teacher to serve in both instructional and administrative roles within our Children and Youth Programs. This position involves teaching Chinese language and culture to young learners and coordinating program-related initiatives and administrative operations.
Key Responsibilities
Teaching
- Teach 10 class hours per week within the Children and Youth Programs, during Spring and Fall semesters. Classes are offered at various times, including daytime and weekends, both online and onsite.
- Lead 1 group class for the 6-week summer program unless demanded by other program
- Provide one-on-one private tutoring as needed.
- Design and lead Chinese language and cultural workshops tailored for visiting school

Managing Program Initiatives
- Independently oversee school-facing initiatives such as Explore Chinese Culture with China Institute and China Institute at Your School.
- Handle inquiries, coordinate with instructors and students, assign instructors, schedule sessions, reserve space, and follow up as needed.
- Collaborate proactively with the marketing team and other programs to promote the School’s offerings.
- Conduct ongoing research and develop curriculum, including selecting teaching materials, designing courses and workshops, and compiling
- Maintain accurate and timely program
- Collaborate with program staff and instructors to develop new courses and maintain a teacher-sharing platform (e.g., Google Group, WeChat).

- Administer student placement assessments before each semester as
- Support end-of-term evaluations, analyze feedback data, and recommend
- Stay current with developments in the field by participating in professional conferences, workshops, and training sessions.
- Assist the Director of Education with administrative operations for Children and Youth Programs, including launching new initiatives.
- Support marketing and communications efforts, including updating the website, drafting newsletters and flyers, and creating promotional materials.
- Contribute to cross-program and Institute-wide initiatives, such as special task forces, annual events, and public programs as needed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred in Teaching Chinese as a Second Language, Chinese Language & Literature, Bilingual Education, Applied Linguistics, TESOL, or related fields.
- New York State Teacher Certificate
- Native-like proficiency in spoken and written Chinese and strong command of spoken and written English.
- Minimum 3 years of professional group teaching experience, preferably with children ages 2–15 from diverse backgrounds.
- Demonstrated experience with student-centered, interactive, and communicative teaching
- Strong passion for and experience in curriculum development and age-appropriate course
- Solid academic research skills and familiarity with current trends in Chinese language teaching, assessment, and program evaluation.
- Proficiency in online teaching technologies, especially Zoom and Google
- Prior experience working in an office or program coordination setting is highly
