GENERAL FUNCTIONS:
Under the direction of the 4K Wrap Care Director, the Lead Teacher is responsible for coordinating daily activities in an early learning program and providing a safe and nurturing environment for early childhood-aged children. This position follows the school year calendar, which includes non-working months during the summer.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Plan and implement developmentally appropriate lesson plans and actively participate in daily activities to engage children and monitor safety.
- Serve as a role model to staff and participants and act as the on-site supervisor of the 4K Wrap Care program.
- Manage materials and supplies needed for activities, maintaining quality of supplies, materials, and equipment.
- Develop positive relationships with staff, families, and children, providing support, guidance, and handling concerns courteously and with problem-solving techniques.
- Build collaboration with local school district administration to develop programming aligned with district policies.
- Maintain participant records and documentation as per department requirements.
- Ensure safety and cleanliness of learning spaces and classrooms.
- Follow YMCA emergency procedures to ensure children's safety, communicating any concerns to supervisors.
- Uphold YMCA core values when working within YMCA facilities and community.
- Follow relevant regulations from the Department of Children and Families, Young Star, or other agencies.
- Attend all staff meetings and trainings as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Qualifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Must be at least 18 years old with 240 hours of experience in an approved education setting.
- Must have completed high school or equivalent.
- Meet Child Care Licensing requirements, such as 2 DCF-approved courses, 48 college credits including early childhood education, an Associate's or Bachelor's degree, Child Development Associate credential, or qualified as a School-Age Program Leader through The Wisconsin Registry.
- Minimum of 240 hours of related experience with children in an approved setting.
- Willing to obtain CPR, First Aid, AED, Abusive Head Trauma, Mandated Reporter, Wisconsin Registry certification, and additional coursework as needed.
- Interest and ability to understand and support diverse children's needs.
- Ability to establish positive relationships with others.
- Effective communication skills, both oral and written.
- Exhibit core values of caring, respect, honesty, and responsibility in all work aspects.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Must be able to lift at least 40 lbs., work indoors and outdoors, assume low postures for contact with children, see and hear sufficiently to ensure safety, and engage in physical activity with children.
