Job description

JOB SUMMARY

Provides a stimulating, safe and developmentally appropriate educational environment where children have the opportunity to develop cognitive, social, emotional and physical skills. Responsible for the daily planning, management and supervision of the classroom and children. Generally, may lead and functionally supervise an Assistant Teacher or aide. Responsible for ensuring that all parents, children and classroom staff concerns are appropriately addressed.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Ensures that the physical, social and emotional needs of the children are met daily.
  2. Ensures all policies and procedures to keep the children healthy and safe are being implemented.
  3. Creates activities and opportunities that encourage curiosity, exploration and problem solving appropriate to the developmental levels and learning styles of children through well-defined interest areas.
  4. Assists and supervises children during all activities.
  5. Ensures that appearance, cleanliness and safe environment of classroom are appropriately maintained, in accordance with the NAEYC cleaning and sanitizing guidelines.
  6. Completes all Academy and classroom paperwork: for example, daily notes, student accident reports, attendance reports.
  7. Attends and participates in staff meetings, Academy events and parent meetings, as requested.
  8. Prepares and implements classroom lesson plans, programs and schedules.
  9. Develops, plans and prepares instructional aids and/or materials for classroom activities.
  10. Assists children with mealtimes and cleanup.
  11. Ensures that all classroom and outdoor equipment are in good working condition and are used and maintained properly.
  12. Directs activities of other staff in the classroom to ensure that the classroom functions in an orderly manner.
  13. Interacts with parents and maintains open communication to encourage family engagement.
  14. Maintains the Family Information Board and other classroom bulletin boards.
  15. Schedules and conducts parent and teacher conferences throughout the year.
  16. Ensures that all licensing regulations are being followed as required by the state.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS

  1. Must meet all state and local licensing requirements for the position.
  2. Must have an associate or bachelor's degree in education, Psychology, or any other field related to child growth OR Child Development Associate (CDA) credentials OR Certified Child Care Professional (CCP) certificate.
  3. Must have a minimum of one year of experience at a licensed childcare facility with children under six years of age.
  4. Must receive the required amount of training hours, if any, each calendar year per state licensing requirements.
  5. Candidate must pass all state medical requirements and have a clear background check to qualify for employment.

Salary: From $17.00 per hour
