Job summary

YMCA of Muncie is seeking a Lead Teacher for the Early Head Start program in Mitchell/Muncie, IN. The role develops an emergent, Reggio Emilia-inspired curriculum for a multi-age classroom and supports children’s social, emotional, physical, intellectual, and creative growth.

You will partner with families, maintain required documentation, and ensure health, safety, and quality standards while engaging volunteers and staff in program activities.

Qualifications

• AS in ECE (equivalent or higher) required.
• Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood/Child Development preferred.
• CPR/AED Certification required.
• First Aid Certification required.
• Child Abuse Prevention Training, I-Lead mandatory modules, Blood Borne Pathogens, Safe Sleep required.
• Ability to relate to diverse groups of people from all social/economic backgrounds.
• 1–3 years of experience with children in licensed/NAEYC centers; supervising experience preferred.
• Valid driver’s license and transportation for business travel.

Responsibilities

• Provides excellent service to members, guests, and program participants, aiding retention.
• Maintains cleanliness and organization of the environment.
• Builds positive relationships with volunteers and members and connects families with the Y.
• Welcomes and supports members, inviting involvement and giving back to the community.
• Follows YMCA policies and required health, safety and quality standards.
• Creates emergent curriculum and provocations in a multi-age classroom using Reggio Emilia approach.
• Maintains documentation (assessments, licensing, accreditation, Paths to Quality).
• Completes mandated trainings and attends staff meetings.
• Conducts bi-annual home visits with families enrolled in EHS.
