East Bay Community Action Program (EBCAP) is seeking two passionate Lead Teachers to provide leadership in our Early Head Start classrooms in Newport, Warren, and East Providence, RI. Position Overview

As an Early Head Start Lead Teacher, you'll create nurturing, safe learning environments while providing guidance to your classroom team. You'll implement evidence-based approaches that promote each child's cognitive, social-emotional, and physical development while ensuring family engagement and support.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee daily classroom operations and supervise teaching staff, substitutes, and volunteers.
  • Implement curriculum following Head Start Program Performance Standards, Head Start Early Learning Outcomes Framework, RI Child Day Care Center Regulations, and RI Early Learning Standards.
  • Apply approaches from Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports (PBIS), The Incredible Years (IY), and Creative Curriculum.
  • Plan and implement developmentally appropriate learning experiences.
  • Promote children's intellectual and physical development.
  • Foster social competence and emotional well-being.
  • Ensure meaningful parent/family involvement.
  • Document children's progress and maintain required records.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary team to support each child's individual needs.
Qualifications

Candidates must have excellent presentation, leadership, and management skills to effectively communicate with staff, parents, children, and colleagues. You must have ONE of the following:

  • Child Development Associate (CDA) credential in Early Childhood AND supervised teaching experience in an early childhood setting, OR
  • Bachelor's or Associate's degree in Early Childhood Education or related field* AND supervised teaching experience in an early childhood setting.

*Related fields include: Human Development, Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, Education, Pediatric Nursing, Home Economics/Family & Consumer Science, Physical Education & Recreation, and Child & Family Studies.

  • RIDE-certified classroom teachers with related degrees must meet RI Early Learning Standards Teacher Qualifications (minimum 24 credit hours in ECE coursework).
  • Head Start teacher candidates with related degrees must provide transcripts validating 18 credit hours in ECE-related courses.

Other combinations of education and experience will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
