Compensation: In accordance with California law, the expected salary range for this position is posted with this position. The actual compensation will be determined based on experience and other factors permitted by law.

Role Summary: The Lead Teacher plays a key leadership role in ensuring high-quality early childhood education for children prenatal to age 5. This position oversees day-to-day operations of a Head Start/Early Head Start center, supervises teaching staff, ensures compliance with licensing and performance standards, and supports a safe and developmentally appropriate learning environment. The Lead Teacher also fosters strong family engagement and contributes to staff development and program improvement.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee daily center operations, ensuring compliance with Head Start/Early Head Start standards and leading teaching staff through supervision, coaching, and evaluation.
  • Coordinate curriculum planning, lesson plan review, and classroom observations to ensure high-quality instruction aligned with school readiness goals.
  • Conduct staff performance evaluations, facilitate professional development, and provide ongoing mentorship to promote effective teaching practices.
  • Maintain program compliance through accurate documentation, classroom assessments, and adherence to licensing and regulatory requirements.
  • Engage families in their children's learning through conferences, developmental updates, and activities that promote parent involvement and advocacy.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s in Early Childhood Education, Child Development of related field required
  • California Child Development Site Supervisor permit required
  • 2 units of adult supervision, including core classes, and:
    • For Early Head Start: 24 ECE/CHDV units and 6+ Infant/Toddler units
    • For Head Start: 24 ECE/CHDV and 6+ units Administration
  • 2+ years’ experience teaching and administrative experience in a licensed childcare center or comparable childcare group program serving children ages 0-5 years
  • 2+ years of supervisory experience is highly preferred
