Job summary

WHEDco seeks a Lead Teacher to head a classroom at Urban Horizons Early Childhood Discovery Center, a year-round NYC program serving three- and four-year-olds. The Lead Teacher plans daily activities, maintains a nurturing environment, and supervises assistants and volunteers to ensure high-quality learning.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education (NY cert preferred).
• Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or Child Development with teaching experience.
• Strong verbal and written English communication.
• Familiarity with Incredible Years or Mindfulness in Education is a plus.
• Ability to lift up to 30 pounds and travel by public transportation for home visits.

Responsibilities

• Plan and maintain a safe, clean learning environment for preschoolers.
• Supervise teachers, assistants, and volunteers in the classroom.
• Conduct parent/teacher conferences.
• Develop daily lesson plans aligned to age and development.
• Enter and track student assessments and observations.
• Coordinate two annual home visits with families.
