The Kennedy Center seeks a Lead Teacher to implement developmentally appropriate curriculum across Head Start and related early care programs, ensuring a safe, healthy learning environment and compliance with licensing standards.

The role requires documenting children’s progress, supporting families, leading a teaching team, and coordinating with the Education Coordinator and Director. A Bachelor’s or Master’s in ECE with Lead Teacher qualifications from EEC is required.

Qualifications

  • Lead Teacher qualification from EEC.
  • Experience in licensed early childhood education programs.
  • Familiarity with Head Start standards and EEC regulations.

Responsibilities

  • The Lead Teacher has primary responsibility for maintaining a safe, healthy learning environment.
  • Complete accurate documentation of children’s developmental progress.
  • Plan, create, and implement developmentally appropriate curriculum based on children’s strengths, needs, and interests.
  • Support parents and provide resources and make referrals as needed.
  • Provide leadership and supervise a teaching team.
  • Provide accurate documentation to the Children’s Services management team.
  • All other duties as assigned by the Education Coordinator and Director of Children’s Services.

Job description

The goal of this position is to implement a developmentally appropriate curriculum for the Kennedy Center’s highly professional and nurturing Head Start, Extended Day, Toddler, Preschool, and School Age Child Care services and ensure compliance with all licensing and accreditation requirements. To be a member of the Children’s Services team and to stay current on regulations, standards, and policies.

Compensation: $26-$35/hr.

  • The Lead Teacher has primary responsibility for maintaining a safe, healthy learning environment.
  • The Lead Teacher will complete accurate documentation of children’s developmental progress.
  • The Lead Teacher will plan, create, and implement developmentally appropriate curriculum based on children’s strengths, needs, and interests.
  • The Lead Teacher will support parents and provide resources and make referrals as needed.
  • The Lead Teacher will provide appropriate support and technical assistance to the teaching team.
  • The Lead Teacher will provide accurate documentation to the Children’s Services management team.
  • All other duties as assigned by the Education Coordinator and Director of Children’s Services.

  • The ability to implement knowledge of child development and developmentally appropriate curriculum into daily practices.
  • The ability to follow guidelines defined by Head Start Performance Standards, NAEYC Accreditation Standards, and EEC regulations.
  • The ability to communicate effectively with supervisors, coworkers, community resources, and consumers of Kennedy Center’s services.
  • The ability to submit required documentation in a timely manner.
  • Ability to use and manage the technology to collect, organize, store, and use data for ongoing operations such as data collection for client records, progress reporting, and reporting to funding sources.
  • The ability to provide leadership and supervise a teaching team.
  • The ability to use technology for routine electronic communication with supervisors, families, and coworkers.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • The ability to effectively manage many and at times competing demands.
  • Sensitivity to issues of concern to all families;
  • Understanding of poverty as a complex public policy, social, and economic issue.
Educational Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree in ECE or related field
  • Minimum of Lead Teacher qualification from EEC
Experience Requirements:

Minimum of one (1) year of experience in a licensed early childhood education program.
