Torch Technologies is seeking a Lead Systems Design Engineer to drive the design, development, and integration of complex defense and aerospace systems at customer sites in Huntsville, AL.

You will lead cross-functional teams, perform trade studies, and mentor junior engineers while ensuring performance, cost, and schedule targets are met. A Top Secret clearance is preferred and relocation support is not always provided.

Qualifications

• US Citizenship required.
• Master's degree with 8+ years or Bachelor's with 10+ years in a related field.
• Experience leading the design of complex systems in defense/aerospace.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret clearance.
• Strong communication and leadership capabilities.

Responsibilities

• Lead the entire system design lifecycle from concept to integration.
• Translate requirements into detailed specifications and design docs.
• Conduct trade studies to optimize performance, cost, schedule, and risk.
• Develop and maintain system block diagrams and interface documents.
• Model, simulate, and analyze system behavior and performance.
• Collaborate with software, hardware, test, and program teams.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers.
• Participate in design reviews and customer briefings.
• Identify and mitigate technical risks throughout development.
• Ensure designs meet industry standards and customer requirements.

Torch Technologies is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Systems Design Engineer to lead the design, development, and integration of complex systems for various defense and aerospace applications. This role requires a strong technical background, leadership capabilities, and a commitment to delivering innovative solutions.

Job Responsibilities

• Lead the entire system design lifecycle, from concept definition and requirements analysis to architecture development, detailed design, and integration.
• Translate high-level operational requirements into detailed system specifications, functional requirements, and design documentation.
• Conduct trade studies and analyses to evaluate various design alternatives and recommend optimal solutions considering performance, cost, schedule, and risk.
• Develop and maintain system block diagrams, interface control documents, and other design artifacts.
• Perform system modeling, simulation, and analysis to predict system behavior and performance.
• Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including software engineers, hardware engineers, test engineers, and project managers.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers.
• Participate in design reviews, technical interchange meetings, and customer presentations.
• Identify and mitigate technical risks throughout the system development process.
• Ensure designs comply with relevant industry standards, regulations, and customer requirements.

Job Qualifications

• US Citizenship.
• Master's degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline, with 8+ years of relevant experience, or a Bachelor's degree with 10+ years of experience.
• Proven experience in leading the design and development of complex systems, preferably within the defense or aerospace industry.
• Expertise in system architecture definition, requirements management, and verification/validation processes.
• Proficiency in system design tools and methodologies.
• Demonstrated ability to perform trade-off analyses and make sound technical decisions.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively present complex technical information to diverse audiences.
• Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment.
• Experience with various system integration and test methodologies.
• The ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret Clearance.
