Job summary

WHS is seeking a Crew Chief I to coordinate and direct its survey crew in Rock Springs, Wyoming, ensuring surveys meet standards of practice for land surveying and engineering.

Responsibilities include directing field crews, maintaining field notes, and delivering accurate data while enforcing safety and company procedures. Proficiency with Trimble equipment and software is required; heavy lifting and physical work are expected.

Qualifications

• Minimum two years of surveying field experience.
• Proficient with Trimble field equipment (GPS, Robotic, Total Station).
• Proficient with Trimble Business Center and Trimble Geomatics Office.
• Ability to perform physical work (lifting 50–100 pounds).
• Must have a valid driver’s license and be insurable.

Responsibilities

• Directs the work of one or more survey technicians and meets deadlines by organizing, directing, and maintaining field crew production.
• Performs office and field tasks associated with surveying projects with understanding of each project’s requirements.
• Follows company procedures and state requirements to ensure field data is in the proper format.
• Communicates progress to Registered Land Surveyor and Office Manager by verbal and written communications.
• Works without direct supervision and makes technical decisions within limits of authority.
• Maintains neat field notes and supervises sketches, notes, and data collection.
• Maintains boundary survey calculations and client relations.
• Ensures crew adheres to safety procedures and uses all provided PPE.
• Records time spent on each project, mileage, and field change orders.
• Other duties as assigned.
