Job summary

Aiken Regional Medical Centers in Aiken, SC is seeking a Surgical Technologist to assist in robotic and orthopedic cases, set up rooms, and maintain sterile fields under RN direction.

You will scrub in, count sponges and instruments, and ensure safety and infection control while supporting the surgical team. This role offers opportunities for professional growth and a comprehensive benefits package.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Surgical Technologist.
  • 3–5 years of experience as an OR Tech (orthopedic services preferred).
  • CST certification required; maintain CEUs for certification.
  • BLS & CPR certification.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in robotic and general orthopedic cases and prepare room, instruments, and supplies.
  • Maintain sterile technique and infection control throughout procedures.
  • Scrub in and assist surgeon, counting sponges and instruments as required.
  • Update surgeon preference cards and collaborate with surgical team on robotic services.
  • Oversee instruments and equipment and ensure proper setup for cases.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in providing quality care to robotic surgical patients.
  • Maintain general equipment, room, and supplies under RN direction.
  • Perform scrub duties and assist in instrument, equipment, and supply maintenance.
  • Demonstrate Service Excellence at all times.
  • Actively participate in the Universal Protocol and 'Time‑Out' prior to skin incision.
  • Adhere to asepsis principles and demonstrate understanding of aseptic technique.
  • Count all surgical procedures in accordance with policy.
  • Adhere to surgical dress code.
  • Ensure compliance with sterilization processes.
  • Handle instruments and equipment according to manufacturing recommendations and departmental policies.
  • Update surgeon preference cards and collaborate with surgical team on robotic services.
  • Perform surgical scrub in accordance with policy and recommended standards.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of robotic procedures.
  • Keep abreast of assignments and check against informed consent.
  • Know the post‑procedure process.
  • Assemble, troubleshoot, and operate various equipment; select correct size for patient.
  • Participate in correct patient identification, safely position patient, and display general patient safety.
  • Prepare for surgical intervention by selecting appropriate supplies and equipment.
  • Open room, organize, and set up equipment for robotic cases.
  • Drape for procedures, initiate and perform sponge, needle, and instrument count, apply sterile dressing, and maintain sterility.
  • Understand various suture materials and appropriate plane for use based on site and surgeon.
  • Assist surgeon with hemostasis.
  • Have working knowledge of infection control.
  • Operate transport equipment (stretchers, beds, oxygen trays, etc.) competently.
  • Adhere to laser safety measures.
  • Identify, transfer, and label all solutions/medications on the surgical field; do not administer medications.
  • Maintain certification and education as mandated by South Carolina law.
  • Complete all hospital and department‑assigned education.
  • Hold retractors as directed by surgeon.
  • Sponge or suction the operative site.
  • Collaborate with CSS (SPD) to maintain instruments and specialty trays for cases.
  • Oversee surgical technicians’ assignments and provide direction and guidance.
  • Review surgical schedule to ensure resources are available.
  • Seek ways to eliminate errors, reduce turnaround times, and improve workflow for better customer service.
  • Identify and act on process improvement opportunities.
  • Perform and help oversee preceptorships.
