Job Summary

Working Lead. Trains and mentors staff. Coordinates scheduling and efforts of surgical techs. Certified surgical technician providing intra‑operative support. Assists the surgical team by acting as the primary scrub person who handles the instruments, supplies and equipment during surgical procedures. Maintains constant vigilance for the maintenance of the sterile field. Prepares operating rooms for surgery using appropriate techniques. Provides technical services and assists in other areas as assigned and directed. Participates in department performance improvement and continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities.

Responsibilities

• Utilize the written individualized Physician Preference Card for the surgical procedure.
• Coordinate with circulating nurse to provide supplies, equipment and instruments for designated surgical procedures.
• Use a working knowledge of current surgical scrub technology and medical terminology.
• Coordinate with circulating nurse to continuously assess case progress and patient safety; properly operate and document operation of all equipment utilized, and adhere to safety precautions when using electrosurgical units, lasers, and other surgical equipment.
• Handle and label specimens.
• Perform other related job tasks or responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

• Minimum Requirements
• Experience: Two years of hospital surgical experience or completion of a formal training program; knowledge and experience in operative procedures, equipment and instrumentation.
• Education: Completion of formal education/training to obtain Certification as a Surgical Tech and/or completion within 6 months.
• Certifications: Certification as a Surgical Tech (or equivalent) and CPR.
