Job Summary and Qualifications

Lead Surgical OR Technician

Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, the Lead Surgical Technician assists in providing safe and effective patient care, including:

  • Direct patient care, scrubbing and assisting surgeons, and preparing the OR between cases.
  • Recording clinical data and collaborating with RNs in clinical decisions.
  • Leading OR techs and support staff, assisting with operational duties.

Patient care adheres to regulatory guidelines and is tailored to the patient population to meet their needs.

Responsibilities include:

  • Applying knowledge of surgical technology standards (AST, AORN, etc.).
  • Understanding surgical procedures to anticipate needs.
  • Preparing the operative suite, checking supplies and instruments.
  • Using physician preference cards for case setup.
  • Ensuring instruments are functional.
  • Assisting with patient positioning, skin prep, and draping.
  • Supporting the surgeon during procedures.
  • Escalating care beyond scope when necessary.
  • Participating in training, meetings, and emergency drills.
  • Mentoring new employees.

Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program (Required).
  • 2 years of clinical experience (Preferred).
  • Lead or supervisory experience (Preferred).
  • One year OR experience, preferably in an ambulatory surgery center.
  • Valid BLS certification (Online certification not accepted).
