As a Lead Surgery Scheduler you will be responsible for scheduling surgical procedures using a computerized scheduling system (Cerner Schedule Book). You will review surgery scheduling process to ensure efficiency, lead the scheduling process to ensure the quality and accuracy are appropriate and assist with improving the process by aligning with the OR staff, Leaders, and Physicians. This is a full time working 7:30a - 4:00pm Candidates must have 3-5 years experience in Surgery Scheduling. University Medical Center Phoenix is a nationally recognized academic medical center. POSITION SUMMARY

This position is responsible for scheduling surgical, cardiovascular, or obstetrical procedures using a computerized scheduling system. Uses expert skills and knowledge of surgical scheduling to provide guidance to Surgery Schedulers. Reviews surgery scheduling process to ensure efficiency. Leads the scheduling process to ensure the quality and accuracy are appropriate. Assists with improving the process by aligning with the OR staff, Leaders, and Physicians. Provides training and advice on best practices for surgery scheduling.

CORE FUNCTIONS
  • Provides training and mentorship to Surgery Schedulers within the department. Provides leadership, suggests process improvements, and serves as a resource for complex and sensitive surgery scheduling accounts.
  • Verifies Surgery Schedulers are acquiring current orders, authorization numbers, patient history and physicals, results of laboratory tests, etc. in a timely manner.
  • Builds strong working relationships with Surgery Schedulers, Physicians, Leadership and Hospital OR scheduling staff. Serves as the liaison between departments.
  • Assess and identifies skills, competencies and areas of learning and instruction for new hires and existing Surgery Schedulers. Assists with the development of education and training within the specified area in collaboration with department leadership.
  • Continuously observes the surgery scheduling process for the department and makes recommendations for improvement. Identifies reasons for case cancellation and recommends plans to counter the cancellations in the department.
  • This position has responsibility for scheduling surgeries and procedures and maintaining a smooth workflow in the area. Must be able to work with minimal supervision, under stressful situations, set priorities and maintain highly confidential information.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge.
  • Requires skills and abilities typically attained with 3-5 years of surgery scheduling experience; preferably in hospital OR scheduling or physician office scheduling setting.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology is required.
  • Also requires knowledge of payor contract terms and processes.
  • Must possess excellent organizational skills, as well as effective human relations and communication skills.
  • Requires effective teamworking skills and the ability to meet deadlines and productivity standards.
  • The position requires knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet software and the ability to use computerized scheduling systems.
  • Must possess the ability to maintain accurate statistical records, gather data, and produce reports.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
