Job summary

Briggs & Stratton is seeking a Quality Engineer in Auburn, AL to ensure supplier quality across production and supply base. You will lead a quality team, implement systems, and develop corrective actions with suppliers to drive defect reduction.

The role requires a bachelor’s in engineering, SAP proficiency, and strong problem-solving and communication skills. Occasional travel is expected in support of supplier audits and process improvements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field.
• Experience working in a machining and assembly environment
• Strong skills and working knowledge of SAP (ERP) software
• Working knowledge of quality analysis tools such as 8D, SPC, PFMEA, and others.
• Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to teach basic problem-solving techniques and facilitate problem solving team events.
• Experience in developing part certification processes (PPAP) and vendor quality measures.
• Knowledge of fabrication-based quality control methods, tools and techniques.
• Knowledge of analysis skills, as well as data analysis and reporting.
• Strong communication, presentation, and team building skills.
• Manages time effectively, remains organized in all circumstances.
• Self-motivated with a high level of initiative.
• Able to travel on an occasional basis.

Responsibilities

• Supervising, supporting and developing the Supplier Quality Team and assisting with day to day production issues.
• Implementing Quality systems for production and supply base.
• Advising and supporting Quality Technicians on day to day production issues and process controls.
• Collecting and evaluating supplier quality data to identify process improvement opportunities within the supply chain.
• Working with suppliers directly to create corrective action plans to address process failures.
• Monitoring supplier performance through indicators like PPM, repeat issues, Warranty, etc. in order to develop comprehensive strategies and implement actions that effectively improve poor performing suppliers.
• Reviewing and disposition of supplier PPAPs
• Communicating and instructing suppliers on the use of corrective action processes and quality tools and techniques.
• Reviewing supplier manufacturing processes, collaborating with suppliers on process improvement and value enhancement opportunities.
• Regularly communicating with Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, and Supply Chain team members internally to identify opportunities for quality and productivity improvement.
• Collecting, maintaining, and reporting on supplier performance metrics.
• Participating in Engineering Change meetings to ensure awareness to design changes, implementing engineering changes in accordance with the PPAP process.
• Supporting visits to suppliers and assisting the supply chain group in conducting supplier audits as needed.
• Preparing, updating and coordinating incoming inspection plans and receiving inspection activities.
• Creating, issuing and completing Supplier Corrective Action requests and work with suppliers on RMA returns of defective materials.
• Supporting Engineering Change implementations with assigned suppliers.
• Providing support and analysis on special projects as assigned.
