Job summary

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs in Orlando, FL seeks a Supervisory Clinical Laboratory Scientist (GS-13) to lead the Receiving/Referral Esoteric Testing/Distribution Laboratory Section.

This on-site role manages a high-volume, complex laboratory and oversees a staff including at least one GS-12, with telework available ad-hoc. This position participates in quality management, regulatory compliance, budgeting, and policy development, and requires ASCP BOC/AMT certifications or equivalent.

Qualifications

• Must have a bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university.
• Knowledge of laboratory management, quality assurance, and regulatory compliance.
• Strong interpersonal, leadership, and supervisory abilities.

Responsibilities

• Plans and schedules ongoing work and huddles.
• Defines bench assignments for optimal efficiency and workflow.
• Adjusts staffing levels or work procedures as needed.
• Chooses methods for achieving goals and management strategies.
• Ensures orientation, training, and competency assessment of staff.
• Develops and updates policies, performs performance ratings, and manages staff.
