Job summary

Ellaway Blues Consulting is seeking a Lead Substation Engineer in Kansas City, MO, to lead technical design for substations and switchyards. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary EPC teams and clients to drive project execution, design reviews, and engineering oversight, ensuring quality and compliance.

The candidate will oversee engineers, coordinate RFIs and design reviews, and stay current with evolving industry standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Structural Engineering from an accredited program.
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in substations, switchyards, or power generation projects.
• Strong knowledge of ASCE, AISC, ACI, IBC, NESC and related standards.
• Proficiency with engineering software such as SAP2000, Hilti, MathCAD, or similar.
• Ability to manage multiple projects within tight deadlines.
• Strong communication, leadership, and mentoring skills.
• U.S. work authorization (sponsorship not available).
• Ability to pass pre-employment background check and drug screening.

Responsibilities

• Execute technical design for substations and switchyards, serving as Engineer of Record where required.
• Perform and review structural engineering calculations, designs, and analyses.
• Provide oversight and review of vendor documents to ensure compliance with specifications.
• Mentor and support junior engineers while fostering technical development across the team.
• Collaborate with EPC teams and clients to manage RFIs, design reviews, and engineering support.
• Contribute to the development of guidelines, procedures, and standardized deliverables.
• Stay current with evolving industry standards and apply best practices to projects.
• Ensure quality checks and compliance with relevant codes, standards, and project requirements.
