Job summary

Leidos is seeking a Lead Substation Engineer in the US Midwest region to drive design and execution of substation and P&C projects. You will lead a team to read and produce one-line and three-line drawings, schematics, and BOMs for client sites, while ensuring quality and schedule compliance.

The role emphasizes collaboration with engineers, CAD techs, and clients, with travel to customer sites as needed and opportunities for professional development and certifications.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related field with 4+ years in substation design.
  • Experience reading and designing substation drawings (one-line, three-line, schematics).
  • Ability to create and check bill of materials for substation projects.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to interact with internal teams and clients.

Responsibilities

  • Execute substation physical and/or protection & control (P&C) projects.
  • Perform quality control checks on substation design drawings and documents.
  • Read and design one-line, three-line, schematic drawings and related plans.
  • Collaborate with designers/drafters to produce required drawings.

We are looking for a Lead Substation Engineer to join our team.

*Candidates must be located in the in the client servicing territory of (Michigan, Ohio, or Indiana) and willing to travel to customer sites and in office as needed.

The Challenge:

  • Experience in executing both substation physical and or P&C projects
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to interact with the internal team and clients to meet project needs.
  • Performing quality control checks on substation physical and or P&C design projects.
  • Expected to read and design substation design drawings such as one-line drawings, three-line drawings, schematics, wiring, plan-section drawings, conduit and grounding drawings.
  • Create and check bill of materials for substation physical and or P&C
  • Quality Control Checks Design.
  • Complete Project Lifecycle Support from Scoping to Final Design and Implementation.
  • Applying the Minimum Requirements of the National Electrical Safety Code to the Design Processes
  • Working with Client Standards to Implement Design.
  • Working with a Designer/Drafter to Create the Required Drawings for Each Project.

  • Expected to occasionally attend site visit at customer location
  • Expected to occasionally visit the Framingham Leidos office for collaboration with the team

Successful candidates must comply with quality control and safe work practices and maintain compliance with project scope, schedule, and budget. This position will be a member of a design team comprised of engineers, designers, and CAD technicians and will work with client standards to implement design.

What Sets You Apart:

  • Lead Level: Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, or related degree with four (4+) or more years of related substation design experience.
  • Senior & Principal Level: Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, or related degree with eight (8+) or more years of related substation design experience.
  • Demonstrate Excellent communication skills and ability to interact with the internal team and clients to meet project needs.
  • Ability to meet deadlines under pressure situations.
  • Collaborator and leader who can work effectively in team environment.
  • Self-starter who works independently with minimal direction.
  • Strong analytical skills and proven problem solver in both team and independent environments.

You Might Also have:

  • Engineer Intern ("EI" or "EIT") professional certification.
  • Professional Engineer ("PE") License.
  • Working knowledge of protection and control design
  • Experience with bus calculation
  • Experience with grounding studies/lightning protection and lighting studies.
  • Experience with AC and DC calculations
  • Experience with WinIGS or CDEGS
  • Experience working on CAD tools.
  • Master’s degree in related field.
  • Field testing/commissioning experience.

Pay Range $107,900.00 - $195,050.00
