Job summary

Leidos LLC is seeking a Lead Substation Engineer to join our Power Delivery Services team in Framingham, MA. The role involves leading substation design activities, coordinating with engineers and CAD staff, and ensuring safety and code compliance.

You will design and review drawings, manage BOMs, and support projects from scoping through implementation, with occasional site visits and on-site collaboration.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering with 8+ years of related substation design experience.
  • Excellent communication with internal teams and clients to meet project needs.
  • Ability to read and design substation drawings and perform quality control checks.

Responsibilities

  • Read and design substation drawings (one-line, three-line, schematics, wiring, plan-section drawings).
  • Create and check bill of materials for substation designs.
  • Provide project lifecycle support from scoping to final design and implementation.
  • Apply Minimum Requirements of the National Electrical Safety Code to design processes.
  • Occasionally visit client sites and Framingham office for collaboration.

Lead Substation Engineer

We are looking for a Lead Substation Engineer to join our team. Candidates must be located in the Untitled States and willing to travel occasionally to client sites and in-office as needed. PREFERRED East Coast.

The Challenge
  • Experience in executing both substation physical and or P&C projects
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to interact with the internal team and clients to meet project needs
  • Performing quality control checks on substation physical and or P&C design projects
  • Expected to read and design substation design drawings such as one-line drawings, three-line drawings, schematics, wiring, plan-section drawings, conduit and grounding drawings
  • Create and check bill of materials for substation physical and or P&C Quality Control Checks Design
  • Complete Project Lifecycle Support from Scoping to Final Design and Implementation
  • Applying the Minimum Requirements of the National Electrical Safety Code to the Design Processes
  • Working with Client Standards to Implement Design
  • Working with a Designer/Drafter to Create the Required Drawings for Each Project
  • Construction Expected to occasionally attend site visit at customer location
  • Expected to occasionally visit the Framingham Leidos office for collaboration with the team
  • Successful candidates must comply with quality control and safe work practices and maintain compliance with project scope, schedule, and budget
  • This position will be a member of a design team comprised of engineers, designers, and CAD technicians and will work with client standards to implement design
What Sets You Apart
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, or related degree with eight (8+) or more years of related substation design experience
  • Demonstrate Excellent communication skills and ability to interact with the internal team and clients to meet project needs
  • Ability to meet deadlines under pressure situations

  • Self-starter who works independently with minimal direction
  • Strong analytical skills and proven problem solver in both team and independent environments
You Might Also Have
  • Engineer Intern (“EI” or “EIT”) professional certification
  • Professional Engineer (“PE”) License
  • Working knowledge of protection and control design
  • Experience with bus calculation
  • Experience with grounding studies/lightning protection and lighting studies
  • Experience with AC and DC calculations
  • Experience with WinIGS or CDEGS
  • Experience working on CAD tools
  • Master’s degree in related field
  • Field testing/commissioning experience

Pay Range

Pay Range: $107,900.00 - $195,050.00 The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
