Job summary

General Dynamics Electric Boat in Groton, CT seeks experienced Ship Signatures engineers to ensure propulsion system components meet stringent submarine noise requirements. You will design and analyze acoustic systems, mentor junior engineers, and lead projects across Design-Build-Sustain teams, coordinating with internal disciplines and external vendors.

This role requires a BS in engineering, 5+ years or PhD, MATLAB modeling, and a SECRET clearance or ability to obtain one.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Acoustical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Ocean Engineering, or Electrical Engineering
• 5+ years of postgraduate engineering experience or PhD in related field of study
• MATLAB or other coding language proficiency
• Proficiency in gear noise or other machinery noise mitigation techniques
• An active DoD SECRET clearance, or ability to obtain and maintain a SECRET clearance

Responsibilities

• Lead projects in the Ship Signatures Main Machinery group and collaborate with internal EB disciplines and external vendors
• Mentor less experienced engineers to develop skills in machinery silencing
• Develop acoustic calculations and specification requirements for submarine propulsion systems
• Review component vendor design submittals and participate in noise testing
• Develop, implement, and validate novel numerical modeling methods using finite element and SEA techniques
• Communicate noise requirements across organizations and support Design-Build-Sustain teams
