Job description

Our Nuclear Programs and Consulting is a Tier 1 service provider to the U.S. Department of Energy, delivering safe and innovative solutions at complex nuclear cleanup and production sites. Our services include program management, decommissioning, environmental remediation, waste and nuclear material management, nuclear operations, consulting, and engineering and construction.

We’re seeking a Lead Structural Engineer to serve as the Engineer of Record for design projects. The role involves leading design teams, developing design calculations using standard and advanced analysis (FEA) techniques, creating drawings, and developing specifications for structures made of steel, concrete, and masonry, with an emphasis on seismic design. Work will be performed in Oak Ridge, TN, with some travel. Join us in developing infrastructure that benefits communities across the U.S. and make a meaningful impact.

Minimum Requirements:

  1. Sole US citizenship (required for government compliance)
  2. Ability to obtain DOE Q clearance
  3. B.S. in Structural/Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program
  4. 12+ years of post-education experience
  5. PE or SE license, with ability to obtain additional state licenses as needed
  6. Perform Engineer of Record duties and structural design documentation
  7. Lead engineering and design teams
  8. Interface with clients both virtually and on-site
  9. Coordinate with other disciplines and project functions
  10. Estimate, schedule, and track project performance
  11. Knowledge of DOE, NRC, and nuclear standards (DOE-1020, NRC regulations)
  12. Understanding of soil-structure interaction and seismic hazard analysis
  13. Expertise in steel, concrete, and masonry structural design, especially seismic design
  14. Proficiency with national codes (IBC, AISC, ACI, ASCE 7)
  15. Experience with NQA-1 quality procedures
  16. Expertise in finite element software such as STAAD.Pro or equivalent
  17. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and MathCAD or equivalent
  18. Reside within commuting distance of Oak Ridge, TN

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Experience with Revit, AutoCAD, or MicroStation
  2. Field experience as Resident Engineer, Field Engineer, or Quality Control Engineer
  3. Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering or related field
  4. DOE Q clearance and experience
  5. Experience with commercial grade dedications for NQA-1 programs
  6. NCEES Record

Physical and Work Environment:

Includes sitting, walking, standing, bending, climbing, lifting up to 20 lbs, working near construction sites, exposure to dust, fumes, noise, temperature extremes, heights, and occasional travel. Must be alert to safety hazards and work in a team environment.

All applicants must be U.S. citizens, possess a valid driver’s license, and pass pre-employment drug and background checks. Work in the Oak Ridge office is required, with travel as needed.
