Job summary

Personnel Board of Jefferson County is seeking Heavy Equipment Operators for the Merit System to operate a range of street maintenance and utility heavy equipment. Duties include using backhoes, loaders, dump trucks, and sewer-related machinery with limited supervision and guidance from a supervisor.

The role requires a Class B CDL, prior heavy equipment experience, and strict adherence to safety standards.

Qualifications

• Class B commercial driver's license is required.
• Experience working around heavy equipment such as brush trucks, loaders, rollers.
• Experience following safety standards related to heavy equipment operation, including setting up work zones and locating utility lines.

Responsibilities

• Backfills, excavates, spreads, and scrapes construction or maintenance projects using heavy equipment to meet specs.
• Cleans and prepares roads, ditches, sewer lines and land using heavy equipment for maintenance.
• Communicates with the public, supervisors, and staff regarding job duties in writing and verbally.
• Acts as lead worker, assigning tasks and training other staff in accordance with policies.
• Loads, unloads, lifts, and places materials using heavy equipment to complete projects.
• Performs preventative maintenance and basic repairs on heavy equipment to keep operations efficient.
• Promotes safe work practices to prevent accidents and damage.
