Job description

Responsibilities

The Lead Sterile Processing Technician is responsible for supervising operations during the reprocessing of all sterile and non-sterile materials, supplies, instruments, and equipment for surgery and other hospital units.

Essential Functions include:

  1. Monitoring daily operations and assuming responsibility for the assigned shift in the SPD Department.
  2. Independently managing the department during off-shifts and weekends or in the absence of the manager.
  3. Coordinating staffing, equipment, instruments, and supplies to ensure effective workflow between and within shifts.
  4. Creating schedules and assigning tasks to Central Service Technicians, ensuring duties are covered and technicians are rotated based on department needs, training, and competency.
  5. Acting as a liaison between SPD and OR, coordinating projects, and communicating effectively with the Surgical Supply Coordinator.
  6. Assisting in reducing supply and instrument costs.
  7. Managing manual cleaning, decontamination, operating washers and sonic units, testing autoclaves, and maintaining compliance records.
  8. Leading SPD/OR projects and communication with the Surgical Supply Coordinator.
  9. Overseeing the recall process as needed.
  10. Supporting staff education, training, and evaluation, particularly for new hires, focusing on quality assurance and compliance.
  11. Following all regulatory, federal, and state guidelines, including AAMI, AORN, and Joint Commission standards.
Schedule

Monday - Friday, 7:00 am - 3:30 pm, with on-call responsibilities.

Qualifications

Education and Experience: High School Diploma/GED and 3-5 years of experience as a Sterile Processing Technician.

Licenses and Certifications: HSPA CRCST certification required upon hire.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong troubleshooting skills.
  • Technical aptitude.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Competency with various computer hardware and software systems.
