Lead Sterile Processing Technician - Defiance Regional Hospital - Central Supply - Full Time - Days

The Central Sterile Lead Technician must be certified. Performs a variety of cleaning, assembling, and processing duties for reusable instruments and equipment. Performs various patient care activities and related non-professional services to assist nursing personnel. Provides leadership and expertise and ensures continuity for other Central Sterile Technicians. Serves as a resource to others in the department. Assists with staff education and orientation. Completes additional duties as requested by the Department Supervisor. Functions under the direction of the Department Supervisor, complying with established policies, procedures, and standards of practice in conjunction with all members of the health care team.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

*All duties listed below are essential unless noted otherwise*

1. Provide assistance and guidance to other department employees with sterilization processes.

2. Assists in orientation of new staff regarding policies, procedures, methods, national standards, and management of sterilization processes.

3. Cleans, inspects, assembles, wraps, and disinfects or sterilizes all reusable items. Identifies and counts all instruments accurately. Prepares all instruments to ensure they are cleaned, inspected, assembled, wrapped, and sterilized according to appropriate practice standards.

4. Adheres to cleaning and equipment cleaning schedule.

5. Uses aseptic procedures and complies with appropriate policies in performing Central Sterile (CS) duties.

6. Runs and maintains the Steris system according to standards and manufacturer’s operational procedures.

7. Handles contaminated items using proper infection control procedures.

8. Cleans and disinfects/sterilizes endoscopes according to manufacturer’s instructions.

9. Appropriately and consistently uses proper personal protective equipment while performing duties.

10. Performs all related duties as requested or required. Other duties as assigned.

Education: High School Graduate.

Skills: Must have a concern for patient care, have an interest to complete the work accurately, economically and be able to work well with people.

Years of Experience: Minimum 2 years’ experience as a central sterile technician.

License: N/A

Certification: Must be Certified as a Central Sterile Technician. CPR Certification.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Personal Protective Equipment: N/A

Physical Demands: Must be able to stand and work for long periods of time, move up to twenty (20) pounds, and push heavy racks of supplies. Environment occasionally hot. Regular exposure to hot water.
