Job summary

Nebraska Medicine is seeking a Lead Sterile Processing Associate to lead decontamination, instrument assembly and sterilization at the Integrated Services Center in Omaha, NE. This full-time role emphasizes patient safety and infection control with oversight of staff on shift.

Responsibilities include supporting perioperative services, liaising with surgical specialties, and ensuring instruments are properly reprocessed.

Qualifications

• Minimum of three years sterile processing or OR surgical technologist experience.
• High school education or equivalent.
• Experience using Steam, Ethylene Oxide, and Hydrogen Peroxide Gas Plasma sterilizers; PC, laser printer, barcode scanner, barcode printer, Washer/Decontamination Unit, and Heat Sealer Biological Auto reader.
• Communication skills, written and verbal are required.
• Basic computer skills are required.
• CBSPD or IAHCSMM certification within 12 months of hire or transfer date.

Responsibilities

• Lead a group in decontamination, instrument assembly/preparation and sterilization.
• Ensure patient safety and infection control by proper reprocessing and maintenance of instruments and equipment.
• Operate multiple sterilizers and decontamination equipment.
• Provide support for Perioperative services and liaison to surgical specialty services.
• Be responsible and accountable for staff on assigned shift and location.

Lead Sterile Processing Associate Details:

Perform as a group leader in the areas of decontamination, instruments assembly/preparation and sterilization. Play essential role in patient safety and infection control by insuring surgical instruments and equipment is decontaminated, reprocessed and maintained. Operate several types of surgical instrument sterilizers and decontamination equipment. Provide support for Perioperative services and serves as a liaison to surgical specialty services for the organization. Responsible and accountable for the staff on their assigned shift and location.

Required Qualifications:

• Minimum of three years sterile processing or operating room surgical technologist experience required.
• High school education or equivalent required.
• Experience using Steam, Ethylene Oxide, and Hydrogen Peroxide Gas Plasma sterilizers, PC, laser printer, bar code scanner, bar code printer, Washer and Nitrogen Tank, Washer/Decontamination Unit, and Heat Sealer Biological Auto reader required.
• Communication skills, written and verbal required.
• Basic computer skills required.
• Certified by the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD) or the International Association of Healthcare Central Service Materials Management (IAHCSMM) within 12 months of hire or transfer date required.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
• Aptitude for electronics troubleshooting preferred.
• Ability to demonstrate leadership skills with previous leadership experience preferred.
• Ability to demonstrate problem solving and decision-making skills preferred.
• Organization (e.g., ability to multi-task and prioritize, attention to detail, time management) preferred.
• Knowledge of current trends in sterile processing practices and healthcare supply systems preferred.
