Qualifications

  • Graduate of Surgical Technology program required.
  • At least 3 years experience as Surgical Technologist.

A Brief Overview
The Specialty Lead Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) collaborates with the Specialty Lead Nurse (RN) in the given service specialty to coordinate and plan case set up. This collaboration includes onboarding of new surgeons, participating in daily plan of meetings, review of schedule, create preference cards, and coordinates supplies. Coordinate with Specialty Lead Nurse and Team Lead daily to ensure staff breaks, lunches, & room turnovers. Functions as a primary preceptor of the specialty. Also works with Central Sterile in coordination of instruments for daily cases. Participate in orientation of staff to specialty team. Participate in VAST committee. While in the OR, assists the surgeon during operative procedures, ensures the operating suite is adequately prepared for the procedure, and participates in the cleaning and sterilization of surgical instruments.

What you will do
  • Provide schedule management coordination with Specialty Lead Nurse for case review, preference card changes and equipment/supply conflict management.
  • Assist in managing tray contents and determining Point of Use competency for service with CS Manager.
  • Assist in facilitating your specialty schedule in collaboration of Specialty RN and Team Lead such as connecting with staff in the rooms about special needs; help set up and turnover rooms to facilitate quick turn as needed; help staff, cover breaks and lunches as needed.
  • Help with team/staff meetings, submit items for the agenda, power point, takes minutes; Articulate department initiatives with support; Follow Tidelands Commitment to care and respectful workplace policy; Follow organizational and departmental policies; Serve as a service preceptor as needed to help with the orientation of new staff, new supply or new piece of equipment.
  • Provide input into the budget for expense/capital equipment and supply needs; Inventory management; Product trials; Vendor Communication; New equipment/supply
  • Demonstrate competence in procedure set up, appropriate preparation of the sterile field.
  • Maintain standards of sterilization and principles of asepsis.
  • Demonstrates competence in performance and documentation of operating room procedure and counts according to policy, including the proper procedure for incorrect counts.
  • Demonstrate competence and accuracy in handling implants and specimens.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and compliance in the Universal Protocol.

Education Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent and be a graduate of Surgical Technology program Required

Experience Qualifications
  • At least three (3) years’ experience as Surgical Technologist and has demonstrated skills as a preceptor and mentor Required

Licenses and Certifications
  • Certified Surgical Technologist - National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting Required
  • Basic Life Support Certified - American Heart Association is required within 30 days of hire. Recertification every two years Required
