Qualifications

  • Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) required upon hire and must be maintained for the duration of employment.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) required within 6 months of date of hire.
  • Preferred certifications: CIS, CER, CHL.

Responsibilities

  • Monitors and maintains SPD operations in compliance with standards set by regulatory agencies.
  • Provides guidance and direction to Certified SPD Technicians in daily activities.
  • Reviews and makes recommendations to the SPD Manager for new instrumentation or equipment.
  • Conducts daily rounds in SPD and the OR to address issues and concerns.
  • Performs quality control checks for all surgical instrumentation based on current inventory sheets.
  • Assists with monthly QA reports including tray accuracy, sterilization biological reports, and missing instrumentation.
  • Responsible for ordering supplies and coordinating instrument sharpening/repairs with Perioperative Services Supply & Logistics Manager.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of inventory control and par level maintenance.
  • Coordinates with Perioperative Services staff and vendors for loaner instrumentation.
  • Maintains the SPM System with data entry of trays for OR, ER, Clinics, Cardiac, and Floor Specialty trays.
  • Participates in interviewing perioperative candidates and provides departmental orientation to new SPD staff.
  • Maintains competency in sterile processing operations through ongoing education and literature reviews.

Nemours is seeking a 3P - 11:30P LEAD SPD Technician! This position is 40 hours per week and includes periodic rotation to the Pennsylvania and New Jersey Ambulatory Surgery Facilities.

The Lead Sterile Processing Department (SPD) Technician provides leadership and oversight to SPD staff while ensuring the safe inspection, decontamination, preparation, sterilization, storage, and distribution of medical and surgical instruments and supplies in compliance with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and Nemours policies. This role supports operations across Nemours Ambulatory Surgery Facilities in Delaware, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey, requiring maintenance of all applicable state and federal clearances and periodic travel between locations as needed. The position combines clinical and operational responsibilities, with approximately 50% of time dedicated to hands‑on sterile processing functions and 50% to administrative, leadership, and departmental oversight duties to support high‑quality patient care and operational excellence.

Main Responsibilities
  • Monitors and maintains SPD operations in compliance with the standards established by regulatory agencies.
  • Provides guidance and direction to Certified SPD Technicians in performing daily activities related to their work assignments.
  • Reviews and makes appropriate recommendations to the SPD Manager in reference to all new instrumentation and/or equipment needed the Sterile Processing Department.
  • Conducts daily rounds in SPD and the OR to address issues/concerns.
  • Performs quality control checks for all surgical instrumentation that is assembled according to the most current inventory sheet.
  • Assists with monthly QA reports to include, but not limited to, tray accuracy, sterilization biological reports, and missing instrumentation/incomplete trays.
  • Responsible for ordering supplies and managing instrument sharpening/repairs in cooperation with the Perioperative Services Supply & Logistics Manager.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of inventory control and par level maintenance.
  • Coordinates with Perioperative Services Patient Flow Supervisors, Perioperative Services Service Coordinators, Perioperative Services Lead Surgical Technologists, and vendors to receive and return loaner instrumentation.
  • Maintains the SPM System (instrument tracking system) through data entry of new trays or changes to existing trays for the OR, ER, Clinics, Cardiac, and Floor Specialty trays.
  • Participates in interviewing perioperative candidates and provides a comprehensive departmental orientation to all new SPD associates in cooperation with the SPD Manager, Perioperative Services Clinical Nurse Educator, and SPD Educator.
  • Maintains competency in sterile processing operations, processes, and equipment through ongoing education, literature reviews, and seminar attendance.
Qualifications
