Job summary

Space Dynamics Laboratory (SDL) seeks a GNC Controls Engineer to lead design, testing, and deployment of satellite control systems within the Strategic & Military Space Division. You will own spacecraft subsystem controllers (ADCS, propulsion, or gimbaled instruments) and guide multidisciplinary teams across design, modeling, and verification.

Qualifications

• Master's or Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering, Controls or Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience.
• 7+ years in controller design with 4+ years as a component owner.
• Proven experience designing controllers for aerospace applications.
• Experience with full controller lifecycle: algorithms, modeling, electrical, software, mechanical, verification.
• Experience integrating controllers as subsystem components.
• High bandwidth real-time control experience.
• Experience documenting requirements for aerospace controllers.
• MATLAB/Simulink used for design, modeling, and analysis.
• Knowledge of GNC principles and space hardware technologies.
• Effective communication with PMs, customers, and teams.

Responsibilities

• Owns the controller component of a major spacecraft subsystem.
• Develops multidisciplinary understanding of owned component.
• Derives and manages technical requirements.
• Oversees controller and avionics development to meet requirements.
• Collaborates across engineering disciplines for performance and reliability.
• Performs design changes and analysis as needed.
• Tracks issues using JIRA.
• Participates in mission and systems reviews.
• Prepares, reviews and presents technical documentation.
