Job summary

The Sands College of Performing Arts invites applications for a Head Sound to join our production and academic teams. You will maintain and operate all Sands venues’ audio, video, and electrical systems, ensuring safety and readiness for Mainstage productions and student events.

You will collaborate with the Production AV Supervisor, teach and guide student stagehands, and help plan sound plots, load-ins, and strikes. A BS/BA/BFA in theatre and 3+ years of tech theatre experience are required.

Qualifications

• BS/BA/BFA in Theatre or technical theatre required.
• Minimum 3 years in technical theatre or related field, degree preferred.
• Experience maintaining audio/video equipment and related systems.
• Proficiency with Yamaha consoles, QLab, and AVID software.
• Understanding of rigging, electrics, and stage plots.
• Dante Level 3 and OSHA certifications are a plus.
• Valid driver’s license preferred for vehicle operation.

Responsibilities

• Maintain Sands theatrical audio, video and electrical equipment for all venues, coordinating with the Production AV Supervisor.
• Maintain inventory of all AV shop tools in compliance with safety regulations and policies.
• Ensure clean and safe audio/video shop and venue environments.
• Assist production staff, guest artists, student designers and student labor in load-ins, notes and strikes for Mainstage Productions.
• Maintain sound and video needs for Mainstage Productions in collaboration with the Production AV Supervisor.
• Collaborate with students, faculty and guest designers to implement sound plots.
• Determine efficient methods to hang and install sound equipment from show to show with the Production AV Supervisor.
• Generate and maintain necessary paperwork in collaboration with designers and supervisor.
• Supervise/train student stagehands and provide guidance to promote academic success.
• Plan and engineer sound practicals and special projects with the team.
• Execute load-ins, notes and strikes in a timely manner with other departments.
• Collaborate with other production shop heads for safe day-to-day operations.
• Support audio/video needs for summer programs and rentals in the Performing Arts Center.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
