Job description

National Grid Renewables is seeking a Lead Technician to join our team.

The Lead Technician provides onsite day-to-day direction for the safe and reliable operation of the 117MW Sycamore Creek Solar plant in Crawford County, Ohio. The Lead Technician will perform maintenance, repairs, and equipment replacements on the solar generation plant, leading all areas of plant operations as directed by the Area Manager, with a focus on safety, reliability, and fiscal responsibility. The Lead Technician reports to the Area Manager.

Responsibilities

  1. Ensure maximum availability and reliability of the solar plant in a safe, economical, and proactive manner by providing direction and supervision to operations personnel.
  2. Ensure strict management and compliance of all company and project environmental, health, and safety (EHS) programs.
  3. Participate in and promote safety analysis, observations, audits, meetings, training, and injury assessments.
  4. Manage daily site activities, complete scheduled preventative work, and perform corrective maintenance.
  5. Track all activities and ensure proper documentation, especially within the company's computerized maintenance management system.
  6. Plan daily activities and coordinate outages to execute work schedules.
  7. Assist with QA/QC during construction and ensure smooth transition to operations.
  8. Set up the site with proper tooling, inventory, spare parts, and equipment for efficient operations.
  9. Assist in administering warranties, submitting and tracking warranty claims, and reconciling loaned parts.
  10. Participate in root cause analysis.
  11. Operate and maintain equipment, including HV equipment, inverters, transformers, and panels.
  12. Read schematics to troubleshoot mechanical and electrical control systems.
  13. Perform repairs or replacements of mechanical and electrical components following manufacturer requirements.
  14. Perform preventive maintenance as per manuals.
  15. Adhere to internal controls.
  16. Assist with inventory control and ensure daily work orders are completed accurately.
  17. Perform inventory cycle counts.
  18. Assist in setting up sites with necessary tooling, inventory, and equipment.
  19. Support capital improvement programs and retrofits.
  20. Assist with vegetation management as directed.
  21. Travel occasionally to other plants for support, troubleshooting, training, or retrofits.
  22. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Four-year college degree or technical certificate; or 3 years of related experience or industry training; or equivalent.
  • At least 3 years' experience in electrical facility operations and maintenance, preferably in renewable energy and solar.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and communicate effectively.
  • Proficient in computer skills including diagnostics and troubleshooting tools.
  • Self-motivated, goal-oriented, and positive attitude.
  • Valid Driver's License; ability to work in adverse weather and travel between sites.
  • Ability to work with low and medium voltage systems.
  • Proficient in interpreting electrical schematics.
  • Reside within 60 miles or a 60-minute drive of the primary plant location.
  • Willing to work overtime, including holidays and weekends.

Preferred qualifications include experience in solar or power plant operations, managing personnel, holding a Master or Journeyman electrical license, high voltage maintenance experience, familiarity with CMMS, and willingness to travel for repairs and maintenance.

Pay Range: $42.00 – $50.00 per hour.
