Please review the following job description:

The Lead Software Engineer is a senior hands-on engineering role responsible for designing, building, and operating enterprise platforms that improve software delivery, quality, security, and compliance at scale. This position focuses on creating automated, policy-driven systems that embed critical delivery outcomes directly into execution rather than relying on manual processes or approvals.

This is an individual contributor role requiring deep technical expertise and direct implementation. The engineer is expected to write code, build platform capabilities, integrate complex systems, and lead technical innovation through execution. Success is measured by the ability to simplify delivery, eliminate manual effort, and accelerate outcomes through scalable engineering solutions.

The role works across software delivery, testing, cloud platforms, automation, observability, AI, and platform engineering disciplines to create self-service capabilities that enable teams to move faster while maintaining reliability, security, and compliance.

This role is intended for engineers who thrive in highly autonomous environments and enjoy turning ambitious ideas into production capabilities. The successful candidate demonstrates aggressive ownership of outcomes, requires minimal direction, proactively identifies opportunities for improvement, and consistently delivers through hands‑on execution in highly ambiguous environments.

Acting as a technical leader and trusted partner across engineering, architecture, product, and control organizations, this individual drives meaningful business impact by translating complex challenges into production-ready capabilities that scale across the enterprise.

For this opportunity: Truist will not sponsor an applicant for work visa status or employment authorization, nor will we offer any immigration-related support for this position (including, but not limited to H‑1B, F‑1 OPT, F‑1 STEM OPT, F‑1 CPT, J‑1, TN‑1 or TN‑2, E‑3, O‑1, or future sponsorship for U.S. lawful permanent residence status.)

*** In office expectations are 5 days per week. ***

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Implements software architecture and engineering approaches for complex, high impact initiatives that support strategic goals set by executives and senior leadership and establishes technical plans for the area of responsibility.
  • Adopts, refines, and promotes advanced software engineering standards, practices, and governance mechanisms within the domain, enabling multiple teams to improve quality, reliability, and delivery outcomes.
  • Partners with senior technology leadership, product, and architecture teams to shape technology strategy for the domain, providing deep technical insight and proposing solution patterns that influence roadmaps and priorities.
  • Leads the end-to-end technical design and implementation of scalable, secure, and highly available software solutions, delivering reference implementations that inform new products and platforms.
  • Resolves complex technical issues in the area of responsibility, designing innovative architectures and performance, reliability, and scalability improvements that advance business objectives.
  • Provides technical leadership, guidance, coaching, and training to engineers across teams, raising the technical bar through reviews, design sessions, and knowledge sharing activities.
  • Evaluates emerging technologies and research relevant to the domain, building prototypes and solution concepts that provide measurable input into new products, features, or capabilities.
  • Contributes directly to long-term technical plans for the area of responsibility through well-reasoned recommendations, design proposals, and implementation experience.
  • Leads large, complex projects and processes, coordinating technical work across multiple teams to ensure cohesive, high-quality outcomes.
  • Works independently with substantial autonomy, demonstrating technical innovation while balancing risk, and making engineering decisions that meaningfully impact results for the division.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of professional experience in software development.
  • Deep knowledge of multiple programming languages, software architecture, and design principles.
  • Deep understanding of software development lifecycle, testing, deployment, and security practices.

Preferred Qualifications & Technical Skills:

  • Full-domain software engineering and DevSecOps expertise across CI/CD, GitLab, infrastructure as code, automation, scripting, and platform engineering.
  • Strong experience designing, building, and operating hybrid enterprise platforms, including cloud, container, serverless, and traditional infrastructure environments.
  • Ability to create automated, policy-driven platforms that embed quality, security, compliance, and governance directly into software delivery workflows.
  • Experience with policy-as-code, observability, telemetry, runtime validation, and machine-readable evidence generation to support scalable operational and compliance outcomes.
  • Strong software engineering skills developing scalable services, APIs, integrations, event-driven automation, and self-service platform capabilities.
  • Experience applying Generative AI or Agentic AI to automate software delivery, quality engineering, operational workflows, or platform execution.
  • Deep experience designing, building, and operating large-scale enterprise platforms supporting software delivery, testing, security, compliance, and control systems.
  • Expertise across the software delivery lifecycle, including CI/CD, infrastructure as code, testing, security, deployment automation, and platform operations.
  • Proven ability to write production-grade code and directly implement complex platform capabilities, integrations, automation solutions, and engineering services.
  • Experience implementing automation-first architectures, policy-as-code frameworks, and system-enforced controls that reduce manual effort and improve delivery outcomes.
  • Strong experience with observability, telemetry, monitoring, logging, tracing, and runtime validation to support operational visibility and enforcement at scale.
  • Experience applying Generative AI or Agentic AI patterns to software delivery, intelligent automation, platform operations, or autonomous execution models.
