Job summary

Amazon's Hyperplane team looks for a Software Development Engineer to design and build a distributed NFV platform powering EC2 networking services. You’ll own critical components, mentor engineers, and set technical direction for scalable, low-latency systems used across AWS.

You will collaborate with network security, product, and operations teams to deliver customer-focused features, drive performance improvements, and ensure reliability at cloud scale.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience.
• 5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language experience.
• 5+ years of leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience.
• Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain highly scalable distributed systems powering AWS EC2's network virtualization infrastructure.
• Lead technical design and architecture decisions for Hyperplane components.
• Mentor junior engineers through code reviews, design discussions, and guidance.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including network engineering, security, and product management.
• Optimize system performance to meet latency and throughput requirements.
• Participate in on-call rotations and drive operational excellence initiatives.
• Contribute to long-term technical strategy and roadmap planning.
• Write high-quality, maintainable code in C++, Rust, or Java with testing and deployment practices.
