Job summary

JPMorgan Chase & Co. in Houston seeks a Lead Software Engineer within Merkets Technology, Commercial and Investment Bank, to lead critical technical initiatives, delivering scalable, secure products across multiple business functions.

You will guide agile teams, architect cloud-native solutions using Kubernetes and Terraform, and advocate responsible AI practices while collaborating with partner teams to improve code quality and operational stability.

Qualifications

• Formal training or certification in software engineering and 5+ years of applied experience.
• Knowledge of load balancing and service orchestration in on-prem and cloud environments.
• Proficient in Python or Java and familiar with agile CI/CD, resiliency and security concepts.
• Experience with cloud-native architectures and Kubernetes.
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform).
• Experience using AI-assisted development tools with focus on correctness, performance and security.
• Advocacy for responsible AI and secure, compliant engineering practices.

As a Lead Software Engineer at JPMorganChase within the Commercial and Investment Bank, Merkets Technology, youare an integral part of an agile team that works to enhance, build, and deliver trusted market-leading technology products in a secure, stable, and scalable way. As a core technical contributor, you is responsible for conducting critical technology solutions across multiple technical areas within various business functions in support of the firm’s business objectives.

Job responsibilities

• Aligning technical strategy with other partner teams across the bank to deliver a complete and coherent experience for Athena Developers
• Execute creative software solutions, design, development, and technical troubleshooting with ability to think beyond routine or conventional approaches to build solutions or break down technical problems
• Partner with a global team of engineers through a transformation of the Athena Core Platform to a resilient and scalable cloud based architecture
• Identify opportunities to eliminate or automate remediation of recurring issues to improve overall operational stability of software applications and systems
• Lead communities of practice across Software Engineering to drive awareness and use of new and leading-edge technologies
• Drives team adoption of enterprise-authorized AI-assisted engineering practices within the work environment to improve code quality, delivery speed, and operational outcomes (e.g., AI-assisted code review/refactoring, test strategy acceleration, incident/root-cause analysis support), while establishing consistent validation standards (secure coding, peer review, automated testing) and promoting reuse of effective patterns across the team.
• Applies knowledge of tools within the Software Development Life Cycle toolchain, including enterprise-authorized AI-assisted development and automation capabilities, to improve the value realized by automation.
  

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills

• Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts and 5+ years applied experience
• Working knowledge of load balancing and service orchestration, both on-prem and in public cloud environments
• Proficient in one or more general-purpose programming languages such as Python, Java
• Advanced understanding of agile methodologies such as CI/CD, Application Resiliency, and Security
• Practical Cloud-native and Kubernetes experience
• In-depth knowledge of Infrastructure as Code such as Terraform
• Demonstrated experience leading effective use of approved AI-assisted software development tools (e.g., for coding, code review, test acceleration, troubleshooting) with the ability to set team expectations for validating AI outputs for correctness, performance, and security.
• Strong understanding of responsible AI use in engineering workflows, including data sensitivity considerations, secure handling of inputs/outputs, and adherence to resiliency and security expectations; experience coaching engineers on safe, compliant adoption within delivery practices

Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills

• Experience running Kubernetes (AWS EKS) at large scale for financial organizations where scaling, resiliency, security, monitoring and audit trail etc. will be prioritized
• Hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code products, preferably Terraform
• Experience in one or more public cloud platforms (ideally AWS)
• Experience in DevOps will be considered an advantage
