Job summary

Pearson in Minnesota, Saint Paul, is seeking a senior software engineer to lead end-to-end feature design and delivery. You will mentor juniors, drive architecture, and collaborate with Product and Customer Success to translate requirements into robust, scalable solutions.

You will work across Rails, React, AWS, and PostgreSQL, with a strong emphasis on secure, cloud-native web apps and responsible use of AI tools to improve productivity and code quality.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of professional software development experience.
• Proficiency with Ruby on Rails, React, AWS, and PostgreSQL.
• Experience in software architecture, system design, and scalability.
• Excellent cross-functional communication with engineers and non-technical stakeholders.
• Experience mentoring or supporting junior engineers.
• Comfort with distributed or service-oriented systems and asynchronous messaging.
• Comfort working across multiple codebases and unfamiliar systems.
• You should be comfortable using AI tools to assist with coding, testing, and learning.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and delivery of complex, well-scoped features and systems end to end
• Write clear, maintainable, well-tested code and reduce complexity by simplifying services and paying down technical debt
• Mentor junior engineers and level up the team through code reviews and knowledge sharing
• Evolve the platform to support new services across adjacent codebases and domains
• Partner with external vendors and stakeholders to translate requirements into sound technical solutions
• Use AI-assisted development tools for coding, testing, and debugging
• Follow and promote best practices for secure, scalable, cloud-native web app development
