eNGINE is seeking a Lead Software Engineer to drive technical direction across a growing application environment. This senior role involves hands-on work, architecture influence, mentoring, and leveraging AI in modern software development.

You will work with React, .NET/C#, Next.js, Azure, and PostgreSQL to shape solutions, review AI-assisted code, and ensure production-ready quality. The role supports remote flexibility with roughly two onsite days per month in the Robinson, PA area.

• 8+ years of professional software development experience with track record of delivering complex applications.
• Strong multi-stack experience across React, .NET/C#, Next.js, Azure, PostgreSQL; depth in several areas.
• Experience using AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Claude) to accelerate engineering activities.
• Ability to evaluate AI-generated code and enforce quality standards.
• Strong software architecture understanding, REST APIs, microservices, and CI/CD practices.
• Experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL or SQL Server) and SQL.
• Familiarity with Azure DevOps, Git, and modern CI/CD practices.
• Proven ability to lead code reviews and influence technical direction.

Role Overview

eNGINE is seeking a Lead Software Engineer to help drive technical direction and software development across a growing application environment. This is an opportunity for a senior-level engineer who enjoys staying hands-on with technology, influencing architecture, mentoring developers, and finding practical ways to leverage AI in modern software development.

The ideal candidate brings a strong foundation across several areas of the technology stack, including React, .NET, Next.js, Azure, and PostgreSQL. You'll work with engineering teams to evaluate solutions, navigate changing requirements, review AI-assisted code, and ensure the quality of what ultimately makes it into production.

AI is already becoming part of the development workflow, particularly through tools like Claude. We're looking for someone who understands how to use these tools effectively, knows how to recognize and correct low-quality AI-generated code, and can provide the technical judgment needed to keep development moving without sacrificing engineering standards.

This role offers remote flexibility, with an ideal cadence of approximately two days onsite per month in the Robinson area. Pittsburgh-area candidates are the initial priority, though the search can expand to candidates within reasonable driving distance for quarterly onsite visits.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership and direction across application development initiatives, influencing architecture, frameworks, and engineering standards.
• Work across the software development lifecycle, from technical requirements and solution design through implementation, review, and deployment.
• Evaluate and refine AI-assisted development output, identifying inaccurate, inefficient, or poorly structured code before it becomes part of production applications.
• Leverage AI development tools, particularly Claude, to accelerate engineering workflows while maintaining quality, security, and maintainability.
• Collaborate with product owners, business stakeholders, and engineering teams to translate evolving requirements into practical technical solutions.
• Conduct meaningful code reviews, establish development standards, and ensure solutions align with architectural expectations.
• Provide mentorship and technical guidance to other engineers, helping elevate overall development practices.
• Troubleshoot complex application issues and drive solutions related to performance, scalability, security, and reliability.
• Contribute to technical planning, project estimates, and delivery decisions across multiple software initiatives.
• Stay current with emerging technologies, AI capabilities, and modern software engineering practices.

Required Qualifications

• 8+ years of professional software development experience, including designing and building complex applications.
• Strong experience with multiple technologies across the modern application development stack, including React, .NET/C#, Next.js, Azure, and PostgreSQL. Candidates should bring meaningful depth across several of these technologies rather than experience limited to a single area.
• Experience using AI-assisted development tools such as Claude to accelerate software engineering activities.
• Ability to critically evaluate AI-generated code, recognize poor implementation patterns, and make sound technical decisions about code quality.
• Strong understanding of software architecture, application design principles, REST APIs, and microservices.
• Experience working with relational databases and SQL, preferably PostgreSQL or Microsoft SQL Server.
• Familiarity with Azure development environments, Azure DevOps, Git, and modern CI/CD practices.
• Demonstrated ability to lead code reviews, establish engineering standards, and influence technical direction.
• Experience working through changing business requirements and translating them into effective technical solutions.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to independently investigate and resolve complex technical challenges.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Preferred Experience

• Familiarity with Capacitor or other cross-platform mobile frameworks such as React Native, Flutter, or .NET MAUI.
• Experience publishing and maintaining applications through the Google Play Store and Apple App Store.
• An appreciation for human-centered design and strong UI/UX principles.
• Experience mentoring engineers and contributing to technical strategy within a growing application development organization.
