Job summary

JPMorgan Chase & Co. in New York invites a Lead Software Engineer to join our Consumer & Community Banking Customer Identity Platform team. You will help design and deliver trusted, scalable identity and onboarding solutions across products.

You will collaborate with product, risk and technology teams to translate regulations into technical solutions, own end-to-end identity lifecycles, and drive AI-assisted engineering practices to improve quality and velocity.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of applied software engineering experience.
  • Experience designing scalable, distributed systems and APIs in a cloud-based environment.
  • Strong understanding of event-driven architecture and Kafka.
  • Experience with identity and access management (IAM) platforms.
  • Experience translating business or regulatory requirements into technical solutions.
  • Proficiency in agile software development lifecycle practices.
  • Demonstrated leadership in adopting AI-assisted development tools with secure validation.

Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver secure, scalable software solutions that support customer identity, onboarding, and trust services across platforms.
  • Develop and maintain a canonical customer identity model for consistent identity representation across systems.
  • Build and manage services that support end-to-end identity lifecycle (enrollment, verification, remediation, offboarding).
  • Integrate identity proofing and verification vendors via abstracted APIs for flexible onboarding.
  • Develop trust and risk signal services to support fraud detection and identity assurance decisions.
  • Design and implement event-driven architectures and APIs for distributed systems interoperability.
  • Collaborate with product, risk, and technology teams to translate regulatory and business requirements into scalable solutions.
  • Ensure continuity of identity experience across web, mobile, branch, and call center.
  • Identify opportunities to improve platform performance, scalability, and reliability through automation and best practices.
  • Lead adoption of enterprise-authorized AI-assisted engineering practices to improve code quality, delivery speed, and operational outcomes.

As a Lead Software Engineer at JPMorgan Chase within the Consumer & Community Banking’s Customer Identity Platform team, you are an integral part of an agile team that works to enhance, build, and deliver trusted, market-leading identity and onboarding solutions in a secure, stable, and scalable way. You will play a key role in designing and delivering a shared identity platform that supports customer onboarding, identity verification, and trust services across multiple products and lines of business.

Job responsibilities

  • Design and deliver secure, scalable software solutions that support customer identity, onboarding, and trust services across platforms
  • Develop and maintain a canonical customer identity model to enable consistent identity representation across systems
  • Build and manage services that support the end-to-end identity lifecycle, including enrollment, verification, remediation, and offboarding
  • Integrate identity proofing and verification vendors through abstracted APIs to enable flexible and scalable onboarding capabilities
  • Develop and refine trust and risk signal services that support fraud detection and identity assurance decisions
  • Design and implement event-driven architectures and APIs that enable seamless interoperability across distributed systems
  • Partner with product, risk, and technology teams to translate regulatory and business requirements into scalable technical solutions
  • Ensure continuity of identity experience across digital and assisted channels (e.g., web, mobile, branch, call center)
  • Identify opportunities to improve platform performance, scalability, and reliability through automation and engineering best practices
  • Drives team adoption of enterprise-authorized AI-assisted engineering practices within the work environment to improve code quality, delivery speed, and operational outcomes (e.g., AI-assisted code review/refactoring, test strategy acceleration, incident/root-cause analysis support), while establishing consistent validation standards (secure coding, peer review, automated testing) and promoting reuse of effective patterns across the team.
  • Applies knowledge of tools within the Software Development Life Cycle toolchain, including enterprise-authorized AI-assisted development and automation capabilities, to improve the value realized by automation.

Required qualifications, capabilities and skills

  • Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts and 5+ years of applied experience
  • Hands-on experience designing and building scalable, distributed systems and APIs in a cloud-based environment
  • Strong understanding of event-driven architecture and messaging frameworks (e.g., Kafka)
  • Experience working with identity and access management (IAM) platforms or solutions
  • Experience integrating third-party services or vendors through API-based architectures
  • Hands-on experience translating business or regulatory requirements into technical solutions
  • Experience working in agile environments with modern software development lifecycle practices
  • Proficiency in designing high-availability, resilient systems with a focus on reliability and performance
  • Demonstrated experience leading effective use of approved AI-assisted software development tools (e.g., for coding, code review, test acceleration, troubleshooting) with the ability to set team expectations for validating AI outputs for correctness, performance, and security.
  • Strong understanding of responsible AI use in engineering workflows, including data sensitivity considerations, secure handling of inputs/outputs, and adherence to resiliency and security expectations; experience coaching engineers on safe, compliant adoption within delivery practices

Preferred qualifications, capabilities and skills

  • Experience with identity assurance frameworks (e.g., NIST 800-63)
  • Experience with identity proofing or KYC platforms (e.g., Socure, Jumio)
  • Experience designing trust scoring or risk signal platforms
  • Knowledge of omnichannel customer identity systems across digital and assisted channels
  • Experience in highly regulated environments such as financial services
  • Experience influencing platform strategy and shared service adoption across large organizations
  • Experience improving developer experience through reusable platform components and service contracts
