We are a small, expert-driven company providing critical web-based solutions—from data storage and analysis to reporting—for wildlife managers. We're seeking a highly motivated and versatile lead developer to take full ownership of our technology stack and shape the future of our platform. Working alongside our dedicated team of PhD quantitative ecologists, as well as contractors, you will be responsible for maintaining and enhancing our entire system, directly contributing your technical expertise to impactful wildlife conservation efforts.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and enhance existing PHP/Laravel backend services and APIs.
• Develop and implement new user-facing features such as admin dashboards.
• Manage and optimize PostgreSQL/PostGIS databases.
• Troubleshoot and resolve bugs and performance issues across the stack.
• Collaborate closely with wildlife biologists to understand requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
• Manage cloud infrastructure on Google Cloud Platform.
• Maintain and potentially develop R/Shiny applications or integrate R/Python scripts.
• Ensure code quality, maintainability, and adherence to best practices using Git/GitHub.
• Take ownership of the full software development lifecycle, from conception to deployment and maintenance.
• Evaluate and recommend new technologies or approaches to improve the platform.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as a Full Stack Developer, Lead Developer, or similar role.
• Strong proficiency in backend development (PHP, Laravel).
• Experience with relational databases, specifically PostgreSQL. Experience with PostGIS is a major plus.
• Solid understanding of HTML and CSS.
• Experience with version control systems, particularly Git and GitHub workflows.
• Experience deploying web applications (experience with Vercel is a plus).
• Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage priorities, and take ownership of projects in a sole developer environment.
• Excellent problem-solving and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with non-technical team members.
• Familiarity with containerization using Docker.
