Job summary

Hyve Solutions seeks a Lead SMT Operator to oversee SMT equipment operation, setup, and maintenance, guiding junior operators and ensuring high-quality production. The role requires strong leadership, hands-on SMT expertise, and adherence to safety standards in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

The candidate will read drawings, troubleshoot issues, and collaborate with engineering and QA to refine SMT processes while maintaining thorough production records and continuous improvement

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; associate's degree in electronics or a related field preferred.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience operating and maintaining SMT equipment in a manufacturing environment.
• Proven leadership or supervisory experience in a production setting.
• Strong understanding of SMT processes, components, and industry best practices.
• Proficiency in setting up, programming, and operating various SMT machines (e.g., Fuji, Mycronic, Juki, Panasonic).
• Ability to read and interpret technical documentation, including schematics and assembly drawings.
• Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills related to SMT equipment and processes.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to train and mentor others.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
• Knowledge of IPC‑A‑610 standards is highly desirable.
• Basic computer skills for data entry and machine interface.
• Ability to lift and move up to 25 pounds as needed.

Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise a team of SMT Operators, providing guidance, training, and performance feedback.
• Perform complex setups, changeovers, and programming adjustments on SMT placement machines, solder paste printers, and reflow ovens.
• Operate and monitor SMT equipment, including pick-and-place machines, screen printers, and reflow ovens, ensuring optimal performance and adherence to production schedules.
• Conduct first-article inspections and in-process quality checks to identify and correct defects, ensuring product quality and compliance with specifications.
• Troubleshoot and resolve SMT equipment malfunctions, performing minor repairs and preventative maintenance.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings, assembly instructions, and bill of materials (BOMs).
• Maintain accurate production records, including process parameters, quality data, and equipment logs.
• Collaborate with engineering and quality control teams to optimize SMT processes and resolve production issues.
• Ensure adherence to all safety protocols and maintain a clean and organized work area.
• Assist in the training and development of new SMT operators.
• Implement and support continuous improvement initiatives for SMT operations.
