City of Des Moines is seeking a Lead Sewer Maintenance Worker to supervise a sewer crew under the Public Works Department. The role involves directing tasks, establishing priorities, and coordinating daily activities to maintain sewer systems in an outdoor, hazardous environment.
The incumbent may provide direction, set priorities, assign work, and oversee the work of a crew. Applicants must pass a physical and drug test, and hold a valid Iowa Class B CDL with airbrakes.
Under supervision, performs a variety of work assigned to a crew of Sewer Maintenance personnel; and performs lead worker functions as assigned. The Lead Sewer Maintenance Worker differs from the Sewer Maintenance Worker in the level of responsibility. This is a working lead position. The incumbent may provide direction, establish priorities, assign work tasks and coordinate assigned work tasks of an assigned work crew. The work is performed under general direction of a Public Works Section Chief. The nature of the work performed requires that an employee in this class be able perform and oversee the work of a crew and establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and the public. The principal duties of this class are performed in an outdoor work environment with potential personal hazards.
