Job description

We are looking for an experienced software engineer with solid experience in both PHP and WordPress. We seek a person who is open to new challenges, willing to learn and mentor others, always looking to improve, and takes pride in their work.

Responsibilities

1. Understand product requirements and create technical specifications for tasks.
2. Develop new or enhance existing custom plugins to fulfill product and editorial needs.
3. Adhere to WordPress philosophy, coding standards, and software engineering best practices across all codebases.
4. Collaborate with Product and Editorial teams, communicating complex technical details and advising on best technical implementations.
5. Conduct effective peer code reviews.

You must

1. Have a solid understanding of software engineering principles in web development.
2. Be fluent in modern PHP (v7+) with 7+ years of experience.
3. Have at least 3+ years of experience developing custom solutions on WordPress and understanding of WordPress internals.
4. Understand WP REST API.
5. Possess strong knowledge of MySQL/MariaDB or other RDBMS.
6. Experience with modern JavaScript (ES6+).
7. Write performant, readable, and maintainable code.
8. Pay attention to detail and be able to plan ahead.
9. Demonstrate empathy and teamwork skills, understanding others' perspectives.

Bonus points for experience with

1. Continuous Integration / Continuous Deployment.
2. Agile methodologies.
3. Using WordPress as a Headless CMS with REST API and/or GraphQL.
4. SASS, React.js, Next.js.
5. Large-scale/enterprise WordPress implementations (websites with 1+ million hits/month).
6. Unit testing (especially PHPUnit).
7. WordPress VIP.

Extra bonus points if you

1. Have contributed to open source WordPress or other projects.
2. Contributed to WordPress core.
3. Presented at WordCamps or organized local WordPress meetups.
