Job summary

Jensen Hughes Inc. is seeking a Lead/Senior Fire Protection Engineer/Consultant to join our team and provide expert fire protection consulting at client sites in Austin, Allen, Houston, or Denver.

You will lead engagements with owners, developers, architects, engineers, and contractors on a range of projects from life safety to design and commissioning. The role requires a BS or higher in fire protection engineering with 5+ years of experience and a preference for Texas PE license.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher.
• 5+ years of experience in fire protection engineering.
• Texas professional engineer license preferred.
• Must be local to Austin/Allen/Houston, TX or Denver, CO or willing to relocate.
• Willingness to travel to Texas, Colorado and neighboring states.

Responsibilities

• Provide fire protection consulting on client sites and lead a team of engineers and consultants.
• Develop plans, specifications, and inspection reports in line with professional standards.
• Perform field investigations, design work, and review computations.
• Identify applicable codes and standards for project responses.
• Coordinate CAD/Revit production and review documents as needed.
• Manage projects including scope, schedule, budget, and client interactions.
• Support business development through outreach and presentations.

Job Overview

JENSEN HUGHES has an exciting career opportunity for an Fire Protection Engineer located in our following offices: Austin, TX, Allen, TX, Houston, TX, and/or Denver, CO. This newly created position is an excellent career opportunity for an experienced candidate. In this role, you will provide fire protection consulting services on a client site. You will play a leading role in engaging a team of engineers and specialty consultants in collaborating with building owners, developers, architects, engineers, contractors, and clients on a variety of projects

Responsibilities

• Perform professional-level fire protection engineering services such as life safety code consulting, fire protection design, fire alarm/mass notification design, smoke control design, hazardous materials consulting, system commissioning services, and performance-based solution development.
• Develop plans, specifications, and inspection reports as needed on assigned tasks to see that these items are complete, accurate and in accordance with good professional service practice standards.
• Assist in the resolution of design problems by performing field investigations, research, detailed design work, and/or detailed review of design computations done by others.
• Identify applicable codes and standards to reference in evaluating how to respond to inquiries.
• Conduct and document basic building code analyses, egress analyses, fire detection and alarm systems reviews, smoke control systems reviews, and basic sprinkler and water supply systems reviews, including hydraulic calculations.
• Effectively communicate with team members, clients, owners, design teams, and/or other project stakeholders.
• Position may involve some CAD/Revit production and/or reviewing CAD/Revit documents produced by others.
• Read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
• Manage projects including proposal development; scope, schedule, and budget management; resource coordination; deliverable milestone tracking; and client interaction.
• Participate in business development activities including, but not necessarily limited to client outreach, conference attendance, professional organization participation, and/or presentations.

Requirements and Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree (B.S.) or higher.
• 5+ years of experience in fire protection engineering (compensation and title commensurate with experience).
• Licensed as a professional engineer in the State of Texas preferred.
• Demonstrate effective written and oral communication skills to write reports, business correspondence, presentations and procedure manuals, and to respond to questions from groups of managers, clients and/or other project stakeholders.
• Must be local to the Austin, TX, Allen, TX, Houston, TX, or Denver, CO metro areas or willing to relocate.
• The ability to travel to job sites in Texas, Colorado and/or surrounding states is required.
