Job summary

Jensen Hughes invites a Lead/Senior Fire Protection Engineer/Consultant to join our Denver, CO office. You will provide fire protection consulting on client sites and lead a team of engineers and specialty consultants.

The role requires a BS or higher in engineering, 5+ years of fire protection experience, and licensure as a professional engineer; a Texas license is preferred. Some travel to project sites is expected.

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or higher.
• 5+ years of experience in fire protection engineering.
• Effective written and oral communication skills to write reports and present to stakeholders.
• Must be local to the Denver, CO metro area; travel to job sites is required.

Responsibilities

• Perform professional-level fire protection engineering services including life safety code consulting, fire protection design, fire alarm/mass notification design, smoke control design, hazardous materials consulting, system commissioning, and performance-based solution development.
• Develop plans, specifications, and inspection reports; ensure accuracy and professional standards.
• Assist in resolving design problems via field investigations, detailed design work, and review of calculations.
• Identify applicable codes and standards for client inquiries.
• Conduct and document building code analyses, egress analyses, fire detection/alarm reviews, smoke control reviews, and sprinkler/water supply reviews including hydraulics.
• Communicate effectively with team members, clients, and stakeholders.
• Read, analyze, and interpret technical materials and regulations.
• Manage projects including proposal development, scope, schedule, budget, and client interaction.
• Participate in business development activities and client outreach.

JENSEN HUGHES has an exciting career opportunity for an Fire Protection Engineer located in our following offices: Austin, TX, Allen, TX, Houston, TX, and/or Denver, CO. This newly created position is an excellent career opportunity for an experienced candidate. In this role, you will provide fire protection consulting services on a client site. You will play a leading role in engaging a team of engineers and specialty consultants in collaborating with building owners, developers, architects, engineers, contractors, and clients on a variety of projects

Responsibilities

• Perform professional-level fire protection engineering services such as life safety code consulting, fire protection design, fire alarm/mass notification design, smoke control design, hazardous materials consulting, system commissioning services, and performance-based solution development.

• Develop plans, specifications, and inspection reports as needed on assigned tasks to see that these items are complete, accurate and in accordance with good professional service practice standards.

• Assist in the resolution of design problems by performing field investigations, research, detailed design work, and/or detailed review of design computations done by others.

• Identify applicable codes and standards to reference in evaluating how to respond to inquiries.

• Conduct and document basic building code analyses, egress analyses, fire detection and alarm systems reviews, smoke control systems reviews, and basic sprinkler and water supply systems reviews, including hydraulic calculations.

• Effectively communicate with team members, clients, owners, design teams, and/or other project stakeholders.

• Position may involve some CAD/Revit production and/or reviewing CAD/Revit documents produced by others.

• Read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.

• Manage projects including proposal development; scope, schedule, and budget management; resource coordination; deliverable milestone tracking; and client interaction.

• Participate in business development activities including, but not necessarily limited to client outreach, conference attendance, professional organization participation, and/or presentations.

Requirements and Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree (B.S.) or higher.

• 5+ years of experience in fire protection engineering (compensation and title commensurate with experience).

• Licensed as a professional engineer in the State of Texas preferred.

• Demonstrate effective written and oral communication skills to write reports, business correspondence, presentations and procedure manuals, and to respond to questions from groups of managers, clients and/or other project stakeholders.

• Must be local to the Austin, TX, Allen, TX, Houston, TX, or Denver, CO metro areas.

• The ability to travel to job sites in Texas, Colorado and/or surrounding states is required.
