Lead Senior Civil Engineer - Solid Waste Engineering
Texas: Houston, Austin, San Antonio, Dallas.
As part of WSP’s Civil Ground Engineering & Materials, Earth & Environment Team, you will lead project teams delivering services for civil and environmental engineering projects that involve waste management facility design and permitting, stormwater management, landfill gas management, operations planning, and construction quality assurance. The position requires periodic overnight travel and fieldwork in Texas.
Responsibilities
- Managing and directing project design teams.
- Managing large projects in the Solid Waste sector.
- Preparing engineering design reports and proposals.
- Managing and directing construction quality assurance programs.
- Pursuing and securing new project opportunities.
- Client and regulatory agency interaction.
- Mentoring junior staff and providing proactive leadership.
- Leading complex civil engineering projects, preparing budgets, monitoring events, and supervising subcontractors.
- Negotiating contracts, presenting, and leading meetings.
- Supporting long‑term strategy, growth, and pipeline development for WSP’s Civil Engineering work.
- Ensuring profitable performance and successful project completion.
- Developing and improving engineering discipline certifications and value proposition.
- Representing the discipline to external entities (federal, state, local agencies, clients, subcontractors).
- Coordinating proposal development, scope, timelines, pricing, and budgeting.
- Interpreting and summarizing data for engineering and regulatory conclusions.
- Collaborating with multidisciplinary professionals for trusted advisor service.
- Adhering to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies.
- Performing additional responsibilities as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum Bachelor’s of Science in Civil Engineering or related field with valid Texas PE registration.
- 10+ years of post‑education experience in civil engineering design.
- Experience in solid waste containment design, permitting, landfill gas compliance, fill sequencing, or related areas.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to work independently and within teams.
- Strong leadership, interpersonal communication, and teamwork skills.
- Engineers license required; multi‑state license preferred.
- Advanced technical computation and regulatory comparison skills.
- Experience leading mid‑level to senior level team members with QA/QC focus.
- Proven record of workplace safety and adherence to health, safety, drug/alcohol, and harassment policies.
- Strong adaptability to changing schedules and business needs.
- Occasional overnight travel may be required.
