Job Overview

Fairview is looking for a Lead Security Officer to join our security team at our Fairview Ridges Hospital in Burnsville, MN.

Job Summary:

Ensures a safe & secure environment for all M Health Fairview employees, patients, guests, stakeholders, and communities through proactive leadership, agility, and a holistic organizational approach. Provides for the safety and security of patients, visitors, staff and property by responding to needs of hospital patients, visitors and staff, helping and providing excellent customer service standards. Proactively works to prevent theft and vandalism. May be involved in high-risk situations with exposure to potentially dangerous situations which requires range of safety precautions.

Schedule:

  • 1.0 FTE (80 hours per pay period)
  • evening shift
  • every weekend

Located where Interstate 35E merges into Interstate 35W, we serve many communities in the area, including Burnsville, Apple Valley, Lakeville, Savage, and Eagan.

Our emergency medicine physicians, nurses, and medical staff can treat patients with any type of injury or emergency medical need. Our Ridges Hospital emergency care team is also highly experienced caring for children and teens. In fact, a portion of our emergency department is dedicated to pediatric patients. Ridges also has a pediatric inpatient unit staffed by pediatric hospitalists who are ready to provide high-quality care in a child-friendly setting.Child-Family Life specialistsare available in the emergency department in the evenings, and they’re often available to assist during the day, as well.

Job Expectations:

  • Guides the workflow of the shift as needed
    • Implements daily work deployment
    • Modifies the schedule as needed to ensure adequate scheduling
  • Provides leadership in the absence of supervisory staff
    • Responds to staff and customer questions and concerns
    • Assists officers with policy and process definition
    • Ensures staffing is adequate in response to open hours or unexpected absences
    • Manages overtime within guidelines set by the department manager and director
  • Serves as a department liaison to internal partners, community partners, and visitors
    • Partners with internal employees to identify risk and safety concerns
    • Provides education to internal employees to mitigate personal safety in and out of the workplace
    • Serves on organizational regulatory and security committees
  • Assures the safety of patients, staff, and visitors
    • Responds quickly and effectively to all emergency and non-emergency calls for assistance
    • Provides visible deterrents to crime and prohibited activities by patrolling buildings and grounds
    • Physical interaction with such individuals involves strength, stamina, flexibility, and critical thinking
    • Makes critical decisions based on available information
    • Reports all safety hazards observed on patrols and inspections
    • Ensures safety inspections as assigned and completed
  • Maintains knowledge of, and complies with, all relevant laws, regulations, policies, procedures, and standards
  • Other duties as assigned

Required

Experience

  • Two years security or military experience or
  • Associates degree and one year of security experience

License/Certification/Registration

  • Valid Class D Driver’s License

Preferred

Education

  • Associates Degree in a related field

Experience

  • 2 years in healthcare security
