Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent and 5 years of related experience

Preferred Qualifications

Previous supervisory experience, along with knowledge and experience with locksmith and security access control systems is desired.

Position Summary

The position leads a shop consisting of four skilled trades employees including Locksmiths and Electronic Security Technicians. This shop performs the installation, maintenance and repair of a variety of types of locks throughout the University as well as the technical work involving operating, installing, maintaining, troubleshooting and repairing components of the campus security system.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
  • Thorough knowledge of the practices, methods, equipment, materials, and tools of the locksmith and security access trades.
  • Communicates effectively (verbal & written).
  • Demonstrates ability to work independently and with initiative to ensure tasks and projects are delivered on time.
  • Proficiency with Email, Microsoft Office Suite, AIM , Onesource, One USG Connect, etc.
  • Understanding of technical documents (engineering plans, specifications, drawings, & other technical documents).
  • Proven ability to multi-task, set priorities and resolve issues quickly.
  • Ability to maintain good relationships with personnel of other departments.
Physical Demands
  • Lift up to 75 lbs. Stand, walk, climb stairs, stoop, bend, squat, kneel, and work with hands above head.
  • Work from a standard and/or extended ladder.

Duties/Responsibilities
  • Leads shop employees while also performing the installation, repair, and replacement of all types of locks, security systems, and related components. Checks to ensure appropriate materials and tools are available to support project work. Percentage of time 65
  • Ensures administrative tasks, including timekeeping, attendance, payroll, and shop inventory, are completed accurately. Maintains accurate records of work performed by team members in AIM. Prepares work orders, plans, and schedules future work, and provides input for employee performance evaluations. Percentage of time 20
  • Communicates issues and provides timely updates to the Structural Superintendent. Performs other work as required to support general maintenance operations and carries out additional duties as assigned by the supervisor. Percentage of time 10
